Or maybe he just knows his worth.

Only winner in that fight would have been Keyshawn’s manager. Same guy Tiffany warned Andre Ward not to sign with years ago. Total snake.

You think a challenger that nobody knows, deserves more then $2,100,000 for a title shot and huge opportunity to actually become a name?

If anyone in his actual team thinks that, thats called being out of touch with reality.

Keyshawn is tied into an onerous contract though.

$2.1 million might sound too good to turn down, but by the time everyone has had their cut, what is that, around $700k net?

Prince could have taken $3 million, probably negotiated it to $4 million before purse bids, but he overplayed it and the bids came in low.

And Keyshawn isn’t an unknown either. He knows how to hustle and build attention.

Davis isn’t scared of Haney, but at the same time it’s a big fight, Devin is favourite going in, and a loss sets him back. Turning it down is probably the correct move, and it might force them all back to the table, because Haney’s options are limited too, and he doesn’t want Shakur.

Pretty ridiculous of Keyshawn to turn down 2 million or more for this fight. His team should roll the dice; he's 27 and should beat Haney if he actually trained properly and came in focused, but they seem too set on pricing themselves out or holding out until the Saudis get involved.

Take the smaller purse, get the belt, get the status of beating Haney, and then you can start setting the terms and conditions as the champion. This whole story sums up why the sport is struggling so much in the US at the moment: fighters who are told they are the face of the sport by their cheerleaders instead of testing themselves in proper fights.

    American Boxing is dead..

the problem is these guys aren’t really elite. Just undefeated.

they don’t really sell out arenas.

Roach and the other guy are fighting in a 3000 seat venue…if that. Here in Vegas

This. It's a disgrace to the sport and to themselves. Absolute moron turning down the opportunity of a life time. I hope he never gets another shot.

That's how being a challenger works

I disagree about his manager being the only winner
If he were to best Haney he'd be set for more pay days no?

Didn't wanna bet on himself which as a challenger you really have to

If he thought that was a bad deal, I can't see him fighting often then

No, that's how WBO purse splits work, 75-25%. Keyshawn's worth 60-40%, that was the stumbling block in negotiations, and Prince rolled the dice thinking purse bids or Saudi money might come in. Didn't happen, so they pulled out. They know Keyshawn's worth more, as he does himself.

Davis is a fighter, he'd fight Devin for free. The unfortunate outcome is he'd almost be fighting for free anyway, because he signed the same type of slave contract Ward signed when he turned over. Prince runs that Don King trick on these young street kids, rolls up in all the flash, drops a bag of cash as a signing fee, and they sign their futures away.

25% of the total purse, then 30-35% to Prince depending on who you read. Camp, trainer and cutman fees, taxes and so on, he's lucky to walk with $600-700k for the biggest fight of his life. Would be crazy to take it, given the stature and status of such a fight.

All that has happened is Arum and Top Rank out-negotiated Prince, and refusing to be low-balled, he took the fight off the table. Pretty sure when Tyson came out of prison and started fighting for belts again, he wasn't taking the low-end. Plus Devin's a ball-breaking fight for anyone, especially being Davis's first fight at welterweight. Keyshawn also don't need Haney, he sells out in his hometown, just like Sweetpea did back in the day.

Ironically Davis's biggest fight will be freeing himself from Prince.

I don't think Keyshaw is worth 40 myself

Esp in a division he hasn't done a thing in

Bit silly mate using Mike Tyson as a yard stick too

They obviously do and fair enough but let's see how he gets on in the future

What is with these dopes over pricing themselves? These egos are out of control the guy is a challenger not the champion and he is getting paid a lot more than the average contender. So what are his options? Take a tune up for way less money? These guys have been boxing all their lives surely you would back yourself at what you do best.
