While I do, in this particular case, think it's probably so; triangular theory is something to be avoided in boxing speculation.

 

Wanky Tanky’s resume keeps getting better

 

A very good performance by Zepeda. Roach landed some clean and precise shots, but too few to counter the pressure and the Mexican's insane workrate. Conceicao showed solidity and courage, but Muratalla was too young, too shape and fast for him. Now a Zepeda-Muratalla unification bout would be very interesting.

 

Zepeda and his work rate are pretty impressive. He can stepback and counter and use a bit more his angles he's a pretty darn good fighter compared to what he was previously. Roach is a twitchy fighter his gets stuck when combos are thrown with pressure and build up. Zepeda has defintely improved quite a bit in my eyes impressed and more unpredictable than before

 

Lol, Roach won the first round, barely, and then got completely overwhelmed. Kinda glad he lost, I got tired of his "I was robbed!" shtick.

Zepeda was on point, and it was a fantastic performance. Roach made subtle changes throughout the fight, and caught Zepeda with some wicked counters, but Zepeda always made sure not to get caught with the same punch over and over. Hell of a performance.

And of course no one at the DAZN desk commented on the fact that Zepeda was jabbing Roach´s forehead in. Zepeda´s jab is a nightmare, because its rare for a southpaw to have such a good jab, and he also uses his back hand like a jab at times - letting it go quickly and without telegraphing it.

 

Just caught up on the highlights on this had a few too many ales out last night n missed it!

Dunno what the live DAZN commentray was like, but on the highlights it seemed disgustingly biased towards Roach - Zepeda was landing like 4/5 punch combos, then Mora chime in with "great body shot from Roach!". Other than a few single decent counters it seemed all Zepeda.

Will watch the full fight later on after some breakfast and more coffee!

 

Pretty much summed it up. Mora was pissing me off

 

They were 100% rooting for Roach. In one of the later rounds that Roach quite clearly lost, Mannix said something like: "this was a much better round for Roach"... no its wasn't, he clearly lost it and it was no different from the previous round.

And early in the fight Mannix asked Mora if he was happy with the way things were going for Roach, which IMO is clear language that they were biased towards one fighter. Mora also occasionally gave instructions on what he believed Roach should do in order to win; another clear tell of bias, as Mora did not offer the same commentary to Zepeda.

And because they treat the broadcast booth as a podcast, they end up ignoring a lot of important moments in the fight. They are too focused on delivering their insights and ignore commenting on crucial aspects of the fight.
They are supposed to comment on what is literally happening, and not on altitude training or layoffs - that is pre-fight promotional material and for the news cycle. Commentary is supposed to provide a clear description of in ring action that can be understood if it were a radio broadcast. If this had been a radio broadcast, you would have little idea what actually happened in the ring. At most you would get "Zepeda lands a good body shot" and have no idea what punch it actually was, nor what happened after it or how it was set up.

Jim Lampley´s "bang, bang, bang" commentary gave more relevant information than anything was that was said last night.

Genuinely, while as cringe this is, you at least have Lampley commenting on in ring action as its unfolding.

 

Anyone else notice the commentators were leaning towards Roach until after the cards got announced

Chris Mannix is an idiot he scored the 2nd round to roach..the fix was in but Zepeda was far too good and they had no choice but to give it to the right man

 

Shame that he was robbed against Tank.

he can get some fights if he wanted to but at a much lower price..

 

Was really impressed with Zepeda's performance here. He looked very sharp imo and he's improved a lot of the things which I thought were holding him back. He was a lot smarter with his feet, taking small half-steps backwards, angling off, and moving laterally to layer his offence. Seemed more dedicated behind his jab. Way more defensively responsible in terms of his head movement but even just his overall awareness. Never smothered his work either and was smart about how he used his physicality. Would still like to see him rolling shots but that's a pretty minor thing all in all. I do think Zepeda is the best guy at 135 right now and that he can probably beat the other belt-holders. Roach was game and will come again but he was simply outclassed by the work-rate and skill of Zepeda.

Mannix is very biased in favor of certain boxers, he's like Max Kellerman in that way.
