I could see Bhop getting inside of Monzon's jab and making it ugly on the inside in a similar way that fellow Philly fighter, Bennie Brisco did. The difference is, Bhop was far better and much more versatile than Bennie ever was nit too mention, Bhop had the defense and iron chin to stand up to Monzon's power.

I know I am in the minority here, but I would favor the far more versatile Bhop. Plus, he would never let an Argentine boy beat him.

This is a matchup I've always favoured Hopkins in.

Monzon would absolutely prove to be a tough challenge, I think he would find much success with his jab in particular. But I think he would struggle, more so than against any other opponent he faced, to land more than just his jab. He didn't fight many guys who were taller than him and could compete in the reach department. Let alone anybody with those attributes AND the skill of Bernard Hopkins.

I think Hopkins has a hand speed advantage and just has a bigger bag of tricks to help him trouble Monzon. He'd be able to consistently find counters on Monzon, and I think would successfully take his right hand away for most of the fight, and make him more reluctant to throw the jab. He'd land sneaky fast shots throughout the fight and point scoring combinations up close. Monzon would land sneaky right hands and uppercuts, and would generally be throwing more, but Hopkins would answer with his own shots and would be more accurate.

By the end I say Hopkins wins a competitive but clear UD. I honestly think voters might be letting Monzon being the greater middle dictate their opinions on who would actually win. Not to say that it's crazy to favour Monzon, but Monzon winning the polls so easily is odd to me.

I think he's nullify much of Monzon's jab. He comfortably matches Monzon in size and dimension and has great adaptability and skill himself. Monzon's usual advantage in height and reach would be a non-starter in this one and that's important IMO.

I agree. I think a lot of both fighters but too me, Bhop simply has more tools in the tool box. We seen him beat guys on the inside and outside. All of Monzon's offense starts with his jab. Bhoo was a master at taking that punch away. I think he smothers Monzon.

Wrong as usual. Below are the actual punch stats. It was close fight but Bhop got ****ed by the judges. You love to bring up the Taylor fights but always leave out that these were BHOPs last fights at 160 and he was clearly drained and not at his prime at Middleweight. He jumped up to 175 and took the Ring belt from Tarver in a complete shut out right after these fights.

In their first fight, Bernard Hopkins outlanded Jermain Taylor by connecting on 96 of 326 punches (29%), compared to Taylor's 86 of 453 punches (19%). In their second fight, Hopkins again narrowly outlanded Taylor, landing 130 of 371 punches (35%) to Taylor's 124 of 391 punches (32%)

Well both landed overall the same number of punches. But Taylor landed more jabs. Hopkins lost both fights, so I do not think a case can be made that he nullified Taylor's jab which was a key factor throughout the fight

Monzon does not look that impressive on film to me. Looks kinda slow and predictable. Also he is susceptible to rights hands cause he keeps his chin high. I think Hopkins will have success with some powerful right hands as the fight goes on and will do same damage on the inside. That said, I tend to think Monzon will win a close decision based on his consistent jab according to the points system if that makes sense.
