Holyfield came on in the middle rounds. He made Lewis work for it more than the first bout.

Holyfield was ahead on points after 7 rounds but Lewis came on in the 2nd half of the fight as Holyfield gassed and Lewis won a close but clear decision IMO.

That is patently false. I just watched the first four rounds only, in your honor.

I just watched the first 7 rounds in your honor. I agree with Holyfield being ahead after 7 rounds. I didn't plan to, but I may as well watch the rest of the fight.

I'm pretty sure I had Lennox beating Holyfield 8-4 in the 2nd fight but that was the 90s and I was not
really scoring fights back then. I know Lennox definitely won.

Sorry to be so blunt, but how anyone can have Holyfield winning rounds 1 and 3 of the rematch is beyond mind-boggling.

    Thanks. I feel honoured.

It’s amazing what a fighter coming forward but showing ineffective aggression can do to one’s judgment when scoring a round.

A case of—he’s coming forward and pushing the fight so I’ll score the round for him.

According to the stats Holyfield outjabbed Lewis 8 to 3 in the 1st round. Which is what I saw Holyfield was effective with the jab and outjabbed Lewis in the opening round.

Harold Lederman also scored the 3rd round for Holyfield.

A far cry from your observation that "Lewis boxed Holyfield's ears off and couldn't lay a glove on him on the first 4 rounds".

    Which is also mind boggling.

Reaching for stats as safety net.

Just remember this. Punch stats are done live and in the moment by a human who tabulates when a punch is thrown and when they “think” a punch lands, and they get one shot at it. One. Just think how difficult that is to determine with any type of accuracy.

People talk about stats as if it’s some sort of fact-based machine doing the work.

It's not reaching for stats its just it doesn't support your narrative.

It's quite evident based on the footage Holyfield was effective with the jab in the opening round.

I've offered a rebuttal all you've done is criticise my scoring.

I struggled to give Holyfield even 5 rounds. But I could see it at the max.

It’s not reaching for stats, you said. Then why the did you mention them? You mentioned them for a reason and that reason is fairly obvious.

I’ve criticisized your scoring. 100%. I’m just confused to what your criteria actually is, mate. Because it seems to me your scoring on aggression alone.

I’ve just watched round 3. Holyfield does absolutely nothing of note for the entire round until he lands a right hand with around 30 seconds left. Over the last 10 seconds he attacks Lewis and backs him up with mixed success. Apart from that, he done nothing of note. Nothing.

In contrast, Lewis controlled the entire round by outboxing Holyfield and landing some power shots of his own.

I can handle difference of opinion within reason. I can remember when Chisora fought Usyk and the first round Chisora backed Usyk up the entire round and had some good success. The round was as obvious as it could’ve been, Chisora by a mile. Not even a close round either. Yet Matthew Macklin on the commentary said it was an Usyk round. Is he entitled to his own opinion? Absolutely. But do I respect his opinion? Absolutely not.

I watched the last five rounds, 8-12. Now THAT section of the fight was a draw for me.

I had Holyfield ahead after 7 rounds. He parried so much of what Lewis threw, like a textbook example of it (especially the first four rounds). Evander was consistently landing hard jabs to Lewis' chest and moving him.. strong jabs. Really rocked Lewis in the 7th once the fight finally opened up.. but then closed down again starting in the 8th round. Holy was too old to maintain a brawling pace, close distance, which would have been to his advantage for once, by then. He sat back and boxed more. Pretty good boxer.

So, I have Holyfield by a point after twelve rounds in an somewhat uneventful fight, considering the names involved.

    You're welcome.

Coming forward? Holyfield was boxing, not brawling, mostly out of Lewis' range, which is pretty far back. Couldn't lay a glove on Lewis? First four rounds, overall I mean, go to Holyfield.
