Greater fighter: Fernando Vargas or Meldrick Taylor

You do you buddy but everyone Ive ever talked to considers that a classic outside of you.

 

The Vargas fight with Tito was an incredible fight .

 

This is a hard question but I'm going to go with Fernando Vargas because the Trinidad loss is the only thing keeping Vargas out of the GOAT conversation at 154. Meldrick Taylor has a longer W column and L column but Vargas's W and L column's are both better.

Let's not pretend Trinidad wouldn't have spanked Meldrick Taylor, JCC and prime Terry Norris. "He got embarrassed by Trinidad". Oh no how horrible. Trinidad would win like 90% of his fights against the IBHOF roster in his weight classes.

Decent fighters but what the hell did Campas and Rivera do?

 

He beat Winky Wright and Ike Quartey over 12 rounds who were elite fighters.

Vargas was battle tested in 2 hard 12 round fights against the fighters above.

So how was Vargas not elite and not ready ?

He gave Tito a great fight one of the most memorable fights of the modern era in which the fight was up for grabs after 10 rounds.

The only person on this forum that thinks Vargas didn't give Tito a great fight is you bizarrely which I think speaks more about your strange opinion

 

No, he was way out of his depth and never the same after the loss.

 

But that isn't true.

Vargas had beaten 2 elite fighters going 12 rounds and had won multiple world title fights of course he was ready.

He wasn't out of his depth he simply lost to a great fighter in Tito no shame in that.

And again after the loss to Tito he lost to ODLH in a highly competitive fight against another great fighter not because he wasn't the same.

He simply lost to better fighters but he still performed very well.

Vargas was simply very good but not great but there's no shame in that.
