Archie Moore vs Ingemar Johansson if they fought in 1960

In Moore’s prime I don’t think it’s even a hard fight. By then he was a lot more chinny after Marciano. 60/40 for Ingo maybe? Moore’s style def gives him problems kind of torn on this one because of the time

 

Apparently Moore thought the bout would bring a $4,000,000 gate plus $15,000,000 in TV sales. In which case Johansson's $1,000,000 purse would have been pretty mean.

Ingo eventually knocks him out. Moore’s reflexes and timing had declined a lot by 1960.

 

Ingo probably did hit a bit harder,Moore said Durelle hit him harder than Marciano did.
At that stage of Moore's career I pick the Swede and by ko.

 

I'd favor Ingo at this point in time. From Marciano and back a bit I'd favor Moore.

 

At this point, I see Moore getting clobbered.

 

Johansson likely KO’s him by that point, but I still believe Moore lasts longer than he (Moore) did against Patterson, and could still pose some issues for Johansson for a while.

 

In the 50's or prior to the Marciano fight I would pick Moore (who beat many of the best big heavyweights and light heavy/cruiserweights of the day, but Moore took a tremendous beatdown from Marciano and although he competed very successfully, he was never the same. I think Ingo who ko'd Floyd in their first fight was fresh and less gun shy than the ingo that lost to Patterson. Ingo before the 7-8th round

 

If Moore could not defeat Marciano in 55 he had no chance at Ingo in 60. Moore dominated Rademacher in 61 but was struggling with Besmanoff in both 58 and 60. Besides Lavorante all the better HW's Moore fought after Rischer(late 57) were on losing streaks or lost most of their recent fights. The only reason Moore was still at HW after Patterson was because cutting down to 175 was too much of a burden to maintain the level of activity he wanted.

I think Liston, Ingo,Patterson,Folley and Machen were all beyond Moore at this point. And the next tier Moore would lose most of the time but maybe get a close score. The thing with 10 rounders is they make it easier for "B" sides to get competitive scores.
