An interesting match up between Puncher and Boxer. How do you see the wrecking ball Cuevas do against a solid boxing technician like McGirt at 147? Does Cuevas' firepower do more than enough damage to break McGirt or does McGirt have the skills to outbox and perhaps stop Cuevas late? This content is protected This content is protected
Buddy looked good when he outboxed Simon Brown who was a solid hitter. But with a guy like Cuevas who practically broke bones this could turn out disastrous for McGirt if he makes one wrong move. I’ll still favor McGirt but not with full confidence.
I think i would have picked Buddy but I remember when Tony leveled Buddy and Pipino once he hurts you is going to go all out.
I just had a look at that knockdown based on your write up and Baltazar did drop him heavy with a left hook and had him pretty hurt for the remainder of the round. I'd pick McGirt by decision as i think he has the movement and skills to outbox Cuevas. But if he gets caught like he did vs Baltazar it would be curtains i think.
I think McGirt has to adjust a bit on his early movement/energy if it’s scheduled for 15 — it’s just a different pacing — and he’s ahead on points when Pipino breaks through midway for a KO 8. As noted, when Pipino hit you (right), you stayed hit. Once he gets Buddy in trouble, he pours it on and ends him.
Buddy was a beautiful boxer and his one sided win over unfied champ Simon Brown (who koed Terry Norris in his next big fight) make him a big favourite here. I think his fight with Pipino would go exactly the same as his welter title defence against Genaro Leon (good puncher but pales in comparison to Cuevas bone smashing power) who gave McGirt a good fight and landed a surprising amount of power shots. Pipino would score an emphatic ko within 8 even he landed half the punches Leon landed. This content is protected
