RIP to a brave warrior. Boxing is not a sport and many times I wonder why I have loved it so from competing to a fan. God bless his family.
Rest in Peace Prichard! What happened to him was abominable and should be look at with contempt and disgust. I remember the day it happened, because I was doing the RBR for it back in 2015. I didn't like anything about that match, which I still remember vividly. That whole card was an abomination of biases shown by the judges and referees. Joseph Cooper, the referee in that match was as corrupt as they come, and showed blatant favoritism towards the Black American fighter in Terrell Williams, and let him get away with a foul after foul. It was despicable. I wouldn't point this out, if it weren't for the fact that the same ref not long before, docked Amir Khan, not one, but two points, in his match against Lamont Peterson. Effectively changing the outcome of that match, with Lamont winning a SD only due to the docked points, 113-112 on two cards. He was a deplorable referee, and the sport is better without him. Then look at the main event, which was genuinely shocking. Once again, Lamont Peterson benefitting from corruption, beng handed an undeserved SD win over Felix Diaz, handing him his first loss.
God those back of the head shots were downright despicable. Can't believe no one was held accountable for what transpired in that fight.
Rest in Peace Prichard, prayers and respect to his family. A lot of question marks remain. Why was the fight not retrospectively changed to NC or even a DQ for Williams? It feels odd to see a Green W on his boxrec profile Why the Ref got away with NEVER commenting on this? Why the Ref CONTINUED to lead more fights for years ? Why is there no legal conclusion on this case - it’s pretty clear Williams knew what he was doing / risking, and I think the ref would also have a hard time explaining a judge what he was doing Why this tragedy was not seen as a reason to implement an outside assistant referee who can communicate with the Ref via headphones - just like in soccer.
Rest in peace Prichard Colon. This sport can be so unforgiving. Anyone who steps in the ring is a warrior
I remember watching the fight where he got the brain damage Til this day I hate that incompetent ref and that dirty fighter who kept landing them illegal blows. R.I.P Prichard. Gone too soon, but not suffering anymore
I rewatched the highlights for the first time in over a decade. Larry Merchant once said "that referee ought to be pistol whipped" after Roy Jones vs Richard Hall. I truly think a pistol whipping would be too good for the referee that utterly failed Prichard and cost him his life. Blatant back of the head shots from his scumbag opponent and the referee failing to stop it and even counting one egregious incident (of many) as a knockdown. Rot in hell, the both of them.
