Its easy to look fantastic against a guy who got shut out by somebody who was talking into the crowd while doing it.
One handed Kessler was a hard fight and Hopkins could of went either. Ducked every hard fight in his career, hes up there with there Ottke, a luck job.

True, it was a fantastic performance from a shot to pieces, hands were ****ed, moving up in weight Calzaghe in his last ever fight.

Jones just couldn't handle Calzaghe's skills and relentless pressure.

Jeez imagine if Calzaghe didn't have damaged hands, it woukd have been yet another Highlight reel KO loss for the china chinned ped cheat.

It was another example, in boxings long and storied history, of a fight taking place looong after it should have. I appreciate that Joe was at the end of his career, but he was still holding up pretty well. Wheras Jones was absolutely finished as a top operator - and had been for years. Calzaghe had even written in his autobiography, published a year or two earlier, that Roy was done and that beating him would mean little now.
I watched both their careers in real time and Jones was, IMO, easily the better and greater fighter. People seem to forget that Joe spent the bulk of his career feasting on nobodies in Wales for a lowly regarded belt, and was barely discussed as a credible threat to Jones. At that time, rightly or wrongly, you went to the States to make your name and force a big fight, as Hatton did, as Lewis did, as Naz did etc. But Joe did not. And by the time time his star had really started to rise in a sensible way (2006), RJJ was already finished (2004).
I really don't understand the argument that Jones was anywhere near his best in 2008, or even really a credible threat to any decent level boxer. He was a speed and reflexes based fighter who was done at 34, after 50 fights, and there's no shame in that. But he'd been KOd twice badly by this point and 'earned ' the Calzaghe fight on name value and by beating a retired Felix Trinidad in a long mooted nostalgia fight. I'm not saying Joe wasn't a good fighter, but suggesting the win over Jones was some sort of masterclass is disingenuous, and ignoring any context around the bout.

Calzaghe vs. Jones is a close 2nd to the masterclass that was Vitor Belfort vs. a prime Evander Holyfield.

I mean Jones was obviously at the peak of his ability so there is no denying the accomplishment of Calzaghe that night. He really should be considered for greatest of all time off of that performance alone. If you add in Hopkins, it's undeniable!

There's a whole genre of fight like this though. If a fighter dominates it's proof the opponent is washed and if they don't the opponent is washed and the fighter still struggled. They are kinda boned.

…overblown, overrated, overstated performance ever. Danny Williams’ KO over Tyson was probably more impressive.
