Fighters whose career was affected from a controversial "robbery"

At least as Young viewed it (and a good number of fans otherwise) he was robbed against Ali but still posted wins thereafter to face Ken Norton.

Of course Young strongly believed he won that fight also. Thereafter, his career basically fell off a cliff.

 

It's a nice narrative, but as Andre recently revealed, He already knew He won even before the result was officially announced, since someone from his corner was able to take a "sneak-peek" at the scorecards.
..so people just read on his face what They wanted to read.

 

I agree I think it could have went either way. One notable thing Ward had said he learned after the first fight was that Kovalev was certainly a powerful puncher but he wasn't strong. He didn't want to mix it up inside.
I've always given credit to Andre for not just getting up and surviving but fighting to win. Making the adjustments by fighting inside.
Like many great punchers the Krusher had flaws or holes in his game that fans didn't see. If he wasn't dedicated Andre Ward certainly was as he proved in the rematch. Credit to Ward for being a complete fighter even if it wasn't pretty.

 

Jeff came into his fight with Calvin Grove in outstanding condition. He did everything he was supposed to do. He might have underestimated Grove but i doubt it.
That is what makes boxing so interesting. You never know.

 

This is probably the best example cited thus far, Noel, in the sense it was unquestionably a robbery and in terms of impact (Catterall's final career achievements will almost certainly pale into insignificance, relative to being an undisputed, 4-belt, lineal and ring magazine world champion).

 

Marvin Hagler was completely run out of the country by his loss to Ray Leonard.

 

I don't know, I watched some of the Super 6 recently and felt Dirrell looked even stronger vs Abraham than vs Froch. He looked more focused, more seasoned, and punched with more authority. Obviously the cheap shot by Abraham robbed us of what could have been but Andre looked like a fighter who improved after the controversial decision loss to Froch.

Frankie Randall was horribly robbed in the Chavez rematch. They stole his title and at that point Chavez was such a megalomaniac he went right with it ..

 

That's absurd. The decision was controversial and Hagler ran himself out of contention because he got our hustled from ring sixe to glove size to fight distance to ring strategy just to get top billing and the higher purse .. Ray stole the fight but Marvin had a ton of sympathizers ..

 

Not controversial by any means, but in my scorecard Duran outpointed Hagler, had he recieved the nod in that bout and became Undisputed Middleweight Champion there would be no doubt in anyone's mind that he was not only the best, but the greatest boxer of all time.

the chronological timeline is important 1938 - 45 Bert's middleweight Status, particularly Sadd 1939, McCleave 1943 & 44 take your pick, and Vince Hawkins in 1945.

Note too from 1937 - 43 - Bert went 42 Fights Undefeated, was 'passed over' from Contender Position in 1942, though 5 years undefeated at that point & No.1 through those years... and later 'dropped' as middleweight Contender Outright in 1944 though an Eliminator was Approved and then Scrubbed, again Bert No. 1 at L-HW and Equal Classification with fellow UK Contenders Davies & Hawkins in the Annual Rankings, and as Jimmy Wilde Reports in that same 1944 period when Bert was meeting Mills & McAvoy was stripped of his title - Bert favoured for BOTH Titles...
