In one corner, "The Pittsburgh Windmill"—an unstoppable, swarming human hurricane from the Golden Age with one of the most legendary resumes in boxing history. In the other, the undefeated pride of Wales—a blindingly fast, high-volume southpaw technician who cleared out an entire era with relentless slaps, combos, and elusive movement.

Over 15 championship rounds, who out-works, out-lands, and out-hustles the other?

Official Rummy's Corner Neutral Ground Rules:
    • Distance: 15 Championship Rounds.

    • Equipment: Standard modern gloves (8 oz / 10 oz) and a 20-foot ring.

The truth is: who freaking knows. Greb and Calzaghe sound kind of similar fighters with non stop punching, angles and stamina. On resume it has to be Greb but what actually happens in a H2H is anybody's guess. Greb fought guys bigger than Calzaghe with success, so really the question is does zaggers' modern training and drilling trump Greb's vast on-the-job experience?

Given the preponderance of Greb's resume I have to side with him. After 300 fights I can't believe he didn't see every style. And he beat damn near everyone of his opponents. Surely Joe can't KO him, as hardly anyone did and Joe didn't possess life changing clout. That leaves the option of beating him through greater output. Good luck with that.

This is almost impossible to pick due to the vast difference in time.So i will just vote for Greb due to him being the far greater fighter

Greb would make Calzaghe pay for being better looking. With his fists. Maybe. I wasn't impressed with the footage.

I always thought that Greb was remarkably good looking for the amount of fighting that he did. Maybe @Shay Sonya can give an educated opinion on who it the sharper lookin' lad?

That's an incredibly interesting caveat. I mean, my bungbung looks incredibly healthy...for the amount of bunging I've received. But not compared to a handsome bungbung that is healthy and hasn't been mightily abused. Shay, what do you think?

    Good one Rummy!
If we're talking 12 modern round's , I'd actually lean towards Joe by close decision .115-113 sort of thing.

But if we're talking 15 rounds with Grebs era rules , then I'd flip it.Greb by decision .
    8rounds to 7 thereabouts.

Calazghe and his opponents looks allot better on film than any of Greb's opponents. And Greb lost twice to the only southpaw with Tiger Flowers.

I think boxing as sport evolved a great deal after the 1920s. I think each generation builds and learns from prior generations.

Why though when Calzaghe's biggest strength is his unmatched stamina and none stop punching?

It reminds me of Joe Frazier's response when asked if goes past a certain round 'What the hell you think I'm going to do? Jump out the ring?'

Grebs would be more comfortable in his rule's.He could definitely match Joe for speed and punching.
He also had experience of fighting bigger men.
The longer the fight goes on, imo Greb would turn it into a physically demanding fight. The scores are still close but I think Greb overtakes him on the cards.

There's little difference, other than both men have to fight for 15 instead of 12 with Calzaghe being the fittest and fastest guy around his weight in history.

I can't see Greb being as fast as Calzaghe, probably doesn't have the same workrate either.

Also Calzaghe is probably bigger and stronger himself, most SMWs of Joe's era would come into the ring 175-185. Most Greb was coming into the ring was 170 IIRC

Calzaghe 3 inches taller, 2 inches more reach
