Why can't you see Greb having the same work rate?

Because we've never seen a boxer 160 or above like Calzaghe throwing 1000 punches while maintaining elite hand speed, footwork, defence and combinations for 12 rounds. He's a 1 off, nearest thing to him is Pacquaio in the lower divisions

If you put them in a gym together, I wouldn't be shocked if Joe' looked faster on the pads but in an actual fight Grebs speed would be harder to deal with , because of the sheer volume ,angles and unpredictability.
Greb didn't get where he was and THAT record by chance.
I'm not saying that Greb just goes in and kicks the modern man's ass, but he's been in with so many styles etc, this is a close fight in my opinion.

Based on his resume, I cannot fathom Joe being able to do anything with Greb.. Calzaghe would do well to hear the judges decision which he'd lose.

Based on the fact Greb beat the better fighters with more dominance across a longer period of fights, and also the bigger fighters, for all the size queens out there

No, Greb was usually around a SMW max., but @5 times came in in the 170's, the most was 175 lbs.

But I think you betray bias when you say Calzaghe was faster & likely had a higher work rate.
I would understand if you reserved judgement, but when everyone said he was lightning fast, & smaller...why is it fair to assume he is slower & had a lesser work rate?

I agree Grebb beat great fighters, but they were great for his era, they are not graet by modern standards. The skill level back then was not as high.
Most if not all boxers pre 1930-1940 get beat to a pulp by a modern boxer.

Neither guy was a puncher of any note but dont rule out Cal here ... like Flowers he was a southpaw, had the reach and the height and threw a zillion shots himself with terrific speed .. a very tough match up for Greb.

at Eternity Hall, where every opponent is always in 'time', the questions still current though, which fighter meeting at a recognized once Catchweight fight, meets at what is now a Equal Division, S-MW.

the Betting Boys, yes, they are here too, Odds on Greb and why not, because Joe, in his time, his opponents would be Big Boys in Harry's time, so not new for the Windmill... all things still pretty even then. Ding, Ding.

Greb eyes, moves laterally in & out, Joe retreats covers and makes his often straight in two fisted perpetuity, which though is plentiful, Greb has seen & felt it all hundred times.

the dance is maintained, the fight never really throwing out anything spectacular, with the exception of a man's stamina & durability. The rounds are rarely wide, Greb favouring on mere piston punching, JC seeming a bit stronger in the push & the waltz, but he needs to land more in the swirling breeze the two set.

it is a tiresome affair, more so for the onlookers, but it changes little as Greb is still hitting no matter if it's his move or Joe's.

the crowd gets restless, howling for more, the fighters can't offer much different too what you see...

the Bell Sounds, the Waltz complete, the winner is the Bookies penny pinching certain safe odds, the crowd none too surprised,

the few who hoped a JC verdict, had bet the wrong JC and Greb, the Bad Boys redeemed smirks, wins out the mettled presence, where at Eternity Hall, it is always the Present.

Points Decision to the Pittsburgh Boy, Harry Greb.

How do you measure this? have you seen them? do you know what they did in their time to be considered greats and still be considered greats in today's day and age?

In his autobiography, Calzaghe said his walk-around weight was 192-196lbs.

Coincidentally, I saw a brief clip from an interview he did with Darren Barker recently, where he claimed he was 204lbs going into camp for Kessler.

Calzaghe often spoke of difficulties making 168lbs, both during and after his career.

If a prime Calazghe somehow made 160lbs, I think he'd require medical attention the next day, rather than competing in a boxing bout.
