Did MikeTyson have the greatest uppercut ever?

It's certainly in the top ten along with Foreman, Robinson, Loma, Toney, Jones Jr., Canelo, Gomez, Pac.

 

His uppercuts are phenomenal because of the torque and speed that he got into them straight off the hook to the body.

Truth be told tho, I don't think he throws better, more compact uppercuts than Louis and some would argue that Lewis' right uppercut is on par if not better.

That's at HW anyways, at lighter weights, Duran throws a beautiful uppercut to the body, as did JCC, Saddler, Toney, Sal Sanchez, Robbi threw an uppercut that was still slightly hookercut but more vertical than diagonal elbow and forearm, if you know what I mean, to body and head.

 

i think Robinson's was more varied and accurate.

 

I’m not saying he never did, but genuinely asking because I cannot think of an instance — did Tyson ever knock down a ‘fresh’ top-level opponent (contender/title challenger/champion) with an uppercut.

By ‘fresh’ I don’t mean early in the fight and not at all tired from the pace of fight — by ‘fresh’ I mean not yet hurt. As in not counting any cases where the uppercut put someone down when the opponent was already stunned/wobbly/had already been knocked down by previous punches. So not part of a flurry to finish someone who was already in trouble.

Louis could have a better one?
I would have to look at the film, but hard to believe because Tyson's was so great.
And that Louis, with less muscle & more economy of movement, could generate such force as Tyson with compact punches.

Maybe he did...But intuitively seems unlikely, because yes the torque Tyson got on those shots...
Just the signature way he bends so much & starts on the side & that lateral movement DURING the punch looks so hurtful.
For a short inside punch delivered so quickly, it almost seems like a running overhand right in terms of how much "English" he gets on it, really putting his all into these punches.

It is really a signature look.

 

Yeah dude, Buster Douglas. Then came the long count where he barely got up at the 9.99 count. Then came the bell to save Douglas from tasting a further sample.

There's also Jesse Ferguson.

 

Jesse took a mad lot of punishment from Tyson .He certainly didn't give up easy in there.

 

Not like Lewis.

 

Tyson's hook to the body/uppercut combo is the best two-punch combo, but Tyson doesn't have the best uppercut.

 

Good call on Douglas.

Ferguson was a club fighter who later got a brief moment in the sun beating Ray Mercer when Ray didn’t train and bribed him to lose in the middle of the ring during the fight, lol.
