Rolly ran away for the entire fight. I don't want to be that guy, but if Rolly were a Black American...

Teofimo should get credit for actually fighting. I had it 117–111.

 

Rolly is ass and those cards were a disgrace. Only one guy that looked like he wanted to win from first to last round. Gave every round bar 5th to Teo.

 

Tank doesn't beat Shakur at any weight. I also think Haney beats Tank, even at 135. So, I don't think beating a weight drained Garcia and Rolly puts Tank at the "ATG" level.

Definitely, some people would say Rolly had a "masterclass." But I was a bit disappointed to see people not call out the running and spoiling from Rolly. Definitely a two-way street. Some people will ONLY call out Black Americans for spoiling, while others GLAZE unnecessarily.

 

Giving Rolly 6 rounds is unreal. he was legit 1 round on 1 judges card from keeping his belt.

 

The 00s welterweight era is overrated (2007-2009 was great), but yeah, the current division is crap. People used to think the current welterweight division was worse than the current middleweight division. I think it's because of the big names in the division, but I honestly think nothing has changed entertainment wise. Sasaki, Garcia, and Crocker are fun to watch, though.

 

I had Lopez winning this fight 10-2 rounds, 118-110 points. I gave Romero only the 1st and 5th rounds. The three official scorecards were all too close, and only the 116-112 card is defensible. Romero spent most of the fight going backwards, and every now and then looking to land single punches. He was really only ever aggressive in the second half of the 5th round, when he landed a pair of left hooks that opened a big cut over Lopez's right eye, then landed a big right hand as Lopez lunged in, then followed it with a big right and a big left and a big flurry with Lopez backed into a corner, a sequence which only ended when Lopez slipped (or sagged to the canvas? watching live, I thought it was a slip). Lopez got up and survived the round, and then Romero never did anything at all to build upon that success for the entire rest of the fight. And yet, judging from the way he shrugged off a postfight interview, I bet he thinks he won the fight. I give Lopez a C+ for his performance, with a nod for taking this fight coming off the Stevenson loss and for moving up for his first-ever fight at welterweight. He did not do a lot to separate himself from Romero in winning rounds in the first half of the fight, but he pretty decisively banked all the rounds in the second half of the fight.
