    Here's some history: Muhammad Ali fought in other countries, as did George Foreman and others.

    Ali was far more popular and well-known than Ward, Hopkins, and Jones, but he wasn't a coward and didn't feel a need to have home advantage and crooked referees and judges to win.

    Because Hatton had far more fans than Mayweather, that fight would have made more money in the UK. But Mayweather felt insecure without his home referee Joe Cortez to protect him from the smaller Hatton, and so he demanded the fight be in Las Vegas.

    Boxers have been more likely to be cheated in the USA than elsewhere. I've seen it over and over again: the scorecards in Lewis-Holyfield I would have discouraged British boxers from fighting in America.

    You think Calzaghe was "obscure" because the American media ignored him, and in your mind, the USA is the entire universe. But he was far from obscure in the UK.

    Calzaghe was 46-0, linear and Ring champ at 168 and 175 - you can hate him as much as you want, but you can never change reality.

    Ali loved to travel.

    He didn’t need to though.


    The Hatton-Floyd fight wasn’t bigger in the UK.

    The bulk of the revenue comes from PPV.


    Joe was in obscurity for the most part.

    Nobody is hating on him.

    You’ve got to stop this defensive behaviour.


    Joe held a belt that wasn’t recognised as a major belt at the time.

    Most of his opponents were non world level guys.

    He was relatively unknown in the U.S. until he fought Lacy in 2006. But that was 13 years into his career, with only 2 left.

    Yes, he had to travel to enhance his career.

    Just like Hatton, Bruno, Naz and Benn etc.

    Check Loudon's posts. Pretty much all he ever does is disparage Calzaghe, because Joe beat the man of his dreams, Roy Jones Jr. (he probably also fantasized about others Joe beat, like Eubank).

    Find something new to obsess about, Loudon. Your heart was broken those years ago, but it's high time you moved on. Fall in love with someone new, maybe Devin Haney.

    Joe was a great fighter.

    Me and others are simply explaining things to you that you aren’t aware of.


    You’ve just labelled another poster as hating on Joe, because they’ve said something that you don’t agree with.

    That’s just your defence mechanism.

    Joe’s circumstances were vastly different to Roy’s and Floyd’s etc.

    Are you aware that Roy did travel.

    But only after his circumstances had changed, and he was no longer in a position of power.

    He fought in: Australia, Russia, Poland and Latvia.

    Obviously, he’d never have done that when he was the P4P king.

    That was The Ring line, but they weren't lineal champions. Hill re-established the lineage with his win over Maske, then Michalczewski was the lineal champion after he beat him, then Gonzalez, then Erdei until he retired.

    Is this fight the source of your painful obsession? It's in the past, you can never change it. Better to move on, fall in love with another boxer.
