That was The Ring line, but they weren't lineal champions. Hill re-established the lineage with his win over Maske, then Michalczewski was the lineal champion after he beat him, then Gonzalez, then Erdei until he retired.

After he was schooled by Calzaghe.

Is this fight the source of your painful obsession? It's in the past, you can never change it. Better to move on, fall in love with another boxer.

    Yes.

After he was no longer in a position of power.

    Do you understand now?

Do you understand why he didn’t travel, but Joe did?

    Are we finally getting somewhere?

Agree with your rating of Naseem Hamed he was completely overrated and packed it in after taking his first loss.

The best of the Brits was that Super Heavy who won an Olympic gold medal for Canada.

I don't if anything Hamed gets a bit underrated these days.

    15-1 in world title fights.

    Lineal champion for 3 years.

I don't see how he's rated on the same level as the likes of Dubois or Groves quite honestly.

Hamed for me should be top 5.

People didn't like his cocky attitude and IMO that clouds their judgment when rating him.

I wouldn't say I'm a fan of Hamed either but his record speaks for itself.

15-1 in world title fights and lineal champion for 3 years is impressive.

I remember watching all his fights in his prime and actually saw him live. You are right about his cocky attitude and at the time was i willing him to get beat.So when Barrera beat him i was ecstatic, but since i have disregarded his attitude and have come to appreciate what a great career he had.Easily one of Britains top ten fighters ever

You disagree that Calzaghe fighting Englishmen Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, and Starie in England is not the same as him fighting Lacy, Bika and Sheika in England, let alone with 10 English officials and 0 Welsh ones vs those English fighters?

That it would've been more advantageous for Calzaghe to fight Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, and Starie in Wales with 10 Welsh officials and zero English ones and disadvantageous for Eubank, Reid, Woodhall and Starie to fight him there under those conditions?

I don't see how what I'm saying is remotely controversial or unreasonable, DP.

Again, I made it clear I don't consider it the same as Usyk and others fighting in their foreign opponent's countries and I never claimed it was some major risk or he was a road warrior

Why do you think I say that Ward had home country, home state or home city advantage vs every fighter he fought at the world level? IIRC US refs for all his fights with 23 of 32 of them being from Cali and a scandalous amount of Cali judges

So when Dawson fought him in Cali with 2 Cali judges it's home match for Ward and Dawson is the one taking the bigger risk

But zero criticism from these same clowns who crucify Calzaghe and yes Ward absolutely could of travelled to fight in some of his opponent's or rivals countries but he categorically refused to ever do so because he considered it doing it ''the hard way'' and greatly increasing his chances of losing via hook or crook

Do you consider getting spat at and verbally abused as biased support?

And Newcastle is in England not Wales

If Reid fought Calzaghe in Swansea with majority Welsh officials he would still be fighting a Welshman in Wales and therefore it would be more of a disadvantage to him no matter if he brought thousands of fans from Liverpool up with him

And FTR, there are many factors why home advantage is called home advantage which individually can and often do mean the difference between winning and losing, let alone combined

Yes, and rightly so. He looked lived with Reid for his dirty tactics, which included locking Calzaghe's arm up trying to injure or exacerbate the existing elbow injury which Reid was obviously aware of. Hence why he did it. He should've deducted more points from Reid and maybe even DQ'd him

I never said it was a deliberate attempt to stack the deck against Calzaghe but it would of been more advantageous to Calzaghe if they were Welsh or at least if there had been more neutral ones

He did have bad experiences he was spat at and verbally abused and I already showed you 2 examples from those 4 fights in England vs English fighters where English judges scored against him in fights where the neutral judges scored it for him or much or wider for him

The English judges for the Reid and Starie fights both had bad scorecards or ones which were much more favourable for Reid and Starie than the neutral ones scorecards. Even if 2 of the neutral ones had bad scorecards for Calzaghe it still proves my point and had those neutral judges been English instead of neutral Calzaghe may well have lost vs Reid

Calzaghe actually benefitted from British ref bias in some of his fights

They do have a say. We've often seen foreign fighters fighting in their opponent's countries demand neutral judges or more equal representation among them before they agree to sign on the dotted line and if those fights wouldn't have happened

“Here’s how I look at it,” Haney told Cigar Talk. “Robberies happen in the US. A lot of robberies. How many robberies? It’s too many to count. Robberies happen all over no matter where the fight is.

“Me and my team are doing the best to make sure that there’s fair judging, neutral judges, or if it’s not neutral judges, it’s gonna be a US judge and an Australian judge. We gon’ make an even playing field. That was all I demanded. I just want fair judges. I wanted nothing else.”

Haney vs Kambosos I and II - 2 neutral refs and 6 neutral judges, not a single home ref or judge in sight for Kambosos

    Now watch

    In the US

Kambosos vs Teofimo - US ref and 3 US judges

Loma vs GRJ - US ref and 3 US judges

Loma vs Teofimo - US ref and 3 US judges

Loma vs Haney - US ref and 3 US judges

I can keep doing this all day but no one can name me a single current or recent US fighter who has ever fought a world title fight in their foreign opponent's country with a home ref and 3 home judges. It's the norm in the US, doesn't happen in any other country

    Do you think that's fair?

I never said it was a big risk and I said that Calzaghe fighting English fighters in England is not the same as him fighting non-British foreigners in England.

Again, it would've been more advantageous for him to fight those English fighters in Wales and I do not consider him a road warrior or it the same as Usyk fighting in his foreign opponent's countries

Huh? Eubank, Reid, Woodhall and Starie are English, Calzaghe is Welsh. Wales is not in England Liverpool and Newcastle are

Yes that's a risk too especially if the home fighter has home officials and the away one none but that's not the same as Usyk fighting foreigners in their countries either

Most of the people pushing these narratives on here in these Calzaghe threads are well aware he used to be a big puncher and I've personally posted a whole load of quotes from his opponents and sparring partners praising his power and I have posted them god knows how many times but they still persisted with these narratives

Just like how still to this day they completely ignore the fact that B-Hop ducked him and turned down numerous offers to fight him including in the US way before they fought each other in order to push their narrative about Calzaghe not being willing to travel in his prime

And just how they completely ignore Roy being a steroid cheat

And then they wonder why people get pissed off with them

To be fair, Eubank always crashed the weight late and anyone who actually watched the fight and saw the insane pace a very hard punching at that stage of his career Calzaghe set from 1st bell to last it's simply undeniable that Eubank was in excellent shape and condition and had he not been he would've been overwhelmed in the late rounds because Joe fought like a man possessed that night and set an incredible pace.

    Even the commentator said this

''If Eubank is weight drained you could of fooled me''

Remember Eubank's quote about how after he got dropped in the 1st he said to himself OK, I'm going to be knocking on Calzaghe's door in the championship rounds? Doesn't sound like someone who was drained to me and his words came to pass in the fight

And if Eubank was weight drained against Calzaghe whilst not looking remotely drained in the actual fight and fighting with vigour throughout what does that make a flat as a pancake no vigour Toney vs Roy in Roy's greatest ever win?

I never once said Calzaghe wasn't well liked in England as his career progressed and he was very much the home fighter and had home advantage vs Lacy in England.

And I never said he was a hard done by foreigner fighting in a biased system in England not the UK. I don't have to repeat what I said because I've already made it abundantly clear many times already

Yes, it's not only tedious as hell it's actually pissing me off now. I don't even want to be debating Calzaghe at all because he retired 18 freaking years go and I was sick of doing so long long ago and like I keep explaining to you I'm not accusing you of pushing these prevailing narratives and insane double standards I'm referring to.

    I do disagree yes.

Bika is from Australia travelling across the other side of the globe.

    Lacy/Sheika are from America.

I don't see how that is comparable to travelling down the road on the British isles.

So yes i do see it as a bigger risk for the fighters above i don't think that's unreasonable.

No different than Calzaghe taking a big risk travelling to America to fight Hopkins.

But as i've said to you before how many notable professional Welsh boxing judges are there ? i don't seem to recall any notable ones atleast not in world title fights.

So again it's just because there's more professional British judges on average who score big fights that's all it is.

And out of 22 of Calzaghe's Super Middleweight title fights you only found 2 anomalies with the scorecards. And the 1 bad scorecard in the Reid fight also had 2 bad scorecards in favour of Calzaghe aswell.

Not to mention none of the British referee's showed any bias against Calzaghe.

So the stats are not showing that Calzaghe was taking a risk fighting in the UK. Nor do i consider a Frank Warren backed Calzaghe travelling down the road as taking a risk either i stand by it.

Your first paragraph has been the whole point of my argument. The original poster was trying to claim it's same and it isn't that's what im saying.

And now you've pointed that out that pretty much settles this whole debate for me.

I know Newcastle isn't in Wales but i think you're missing the point i'm making.

I'm saying different parts of the UK and certain cities have rivalries just like in football.

North/South England especially as you know have rivalries.

My point is a Liverpool fighter in Reid fighting in Newcastle i don't think is anymore welcome than Calzaghe would be.

Liverpool is a long way away from Newcastle and those two cities are not exactly close as you know.

It would be different if say Reid was fighting an American or etc then him automatically being British he would get support i believe yes.

But i don't think the same applies to a Welshman necessarily atleast in my view.

    There is some differences.

    1. Eubank had 7 days on short notice to drop down a weightclass.

    2. Toney had a full training camp to prepare for RJJ.

So if Toney couldn't make weight vs RJJ that's on him he had the time to prepare and failed.

Eubank made the best of the time he had available.

I don't think it's unreasonable to say Eubank wouldn't of been 100 percent dropping down a weightclass in 7 days and having to fight an elite Southpaw with 0 preparation against a Southpaw.

It's also fair to say that i don't think it made a difference to the outcome and Calzaghe was simply the better man end of.

Yes it's fine i have a headache aswell after all this TBH.

We aren't even disagreeing on that much to be quite honest it's pretty much down to you and me having a different perspective on a few things.

The original argument i had with the previous poster you basically made the point in your previous post that i said to him and to me nothing else needs to be said after that.
