To tell you the truth there isn't many Father/Trainers in history that I respect as an actual trainer on an elite level. Most are exactly what you described Lopez Sr to be. Listening to the coaching in the corner in between rounds this weekend, he didn't give him any tactics to make adjustments round to round. I mostly heard "motivational barking" which is evidence that the trainer doesn't have any answers as well and/or does exactly know what his fighter is capable of in order to offset the success of his opponent.

We saw the same with Norman Jr.'s coach vs Haney.......Shawn Porter vs Crawford.....

All the 'Rah Rah' for your kid is great, you are supposed to be their biggest fan, but when you get them the fight you been campaigning for, you need to prepare them by having more than just a Plan A in order to be successful.

I vote for Lopez Sr to train Dubois and Eubank Sr to train Lopez, matches made in heaven.

How is it possible that Teo still has his dad in his corner? And still giving the most useless corner advice.

This is the second time Sr tells Teo “You gotta hit him, bro!” in a fight between rounds.

Because, as his son, he is blinded by loyalty and love. However, at some point, he needs to be truthful with himself and realize that his dad is not a world-class trainer. Teo can keep his dad on his corner/team to ensure that he isn't getting ripped off, etc., but that's about it. But you are right; he should have sacked him as trainer about five to eight fights ago.

Calling your son "bro" strikes me as weird.

Teofimo Sr is just weird in general. Not a functional father at all.

They need to do a royal rumble of unbalanced boxing fathers - Guerrero Sr, Lopez Sr, Eubank Sr, Garcia Sr, Fury Sr, Mayweather Sr, Haney Sr, no doubt there’s countless more but just them to start with.

This is all too common with father son duos.

He said the exact same thing to him in the Shakur fight as well. Comical stuff coming from someone that’s supposed to be a “coach”.

Teo's dad is the most entertaining thing about him ATM, if anything he needs to give his dad a more prominent role.

Best advice a coach can give to their fighter. Other trainers need to take notes.

Makes you wonder how good teo would be with a good trainer if he’s able to become a B level fighter with just his father. Though I will say his father is good comedic relief when he tells teo between rounds “what happened to your power bro” or “you gotta hit him bro”. I died laughing when he said that

Got an invitation to meet him 6 years ago when our guys were going to spar Teo. I declined.
