Official Rummy's Corner Neutral Ground Rules:
    • Distance: 15 Championship Rounds.
    • Weigh-In: Day-before weigh-in (24–36 hours prior) at the declared division limit.
    • Equipment: Standard modern gloves (8 oz / 10 oz) and a 20-foot ring.
    • Premise: Both fighters evaluated at their absolute physical and tactical peak at the weight.
Looking to keep the focus on ring craft, style, and 15-round pacing. Cheers!

Great fight. Leonard wins a close decision, but goes home pissing blood for a few days.

Gavilan outboxed Basilio and Leonard was better than Gavilan imo.
    Leonard by hard fought decision.

Leonard wins a down to the wire decision in an epic battle where Basilio takes him to the limit.

my guess is Basilio would have as much contempt for SRL as he had for SRR, this match would be personal.

But you have to think that Leonard would out move him, out run him and out pop him.

his extra height & reach with his athletic style, SRL gets a points win.

Robinson ignored Basilio and his wife, when an up and coming Carmen tried to introduce himself, that's where the enmity came from, but why would he have contempt for Leonard?

Could not have said it any better...SRL wins...but it would be one hell of a scrap and Leonard would definitely feel the effects afterwards!! (I think the fight would in some respects mirror the first Leonard-Duran fight--Basilio would make it a brawl and there would be a lot of INTENSE exchanges!)

it was also Robinson's arrogance & big headedness that Basilio despised, in fact, if I remember right, there was an interview where Carmen voiced this or words to the effect.

and of course Leonard too turned into a self-centred egotistical pain. So I think Basilio might just express similar sentiments.

That's just projection on your part.Leonard was always respectful of opponents in any interview I've seen.

    Is it?

and if so, I'm sure such feelings about him were evident in & by many others too.

Carmen was a magnificent warrior but in Sugar Ray Leonard you have one of the six
    greatest fighters in history.
Carmen would fight with his usual vast courage but Leonard would stop him around the middle rounds.
