Here’s a good one: Al Singer was a good enough fighter to knock out the long-reigning world lightweight champ of four years Sammy Mandell in the opening round of their 1930 world title fight. Mandell had previously beaten Tony Canzoneri in defense of his title.

Canzoneri himself got another title try, this time against Singer and knocked him out in the first round, making Singer the first world champ to win and lose his title by first round kayo.

Good shout that one, Jel. Beat me to it. Mandell was a great fighter.

Jackie Paterson splatted Peter Kane in the first and I've not checked properly to see if anyone has mentioned Kingpetch getting flattened by Ebihara.

    Tony Zale-Jimmy Clark I

    Boxrec:
Jimmy Clark, speedy young middleweight from Jamestown, N.Y., smacked out a one round knockout over Tony Zale, of Gary, Ind., in the feature bout of a club card here last night. Zale stepped into a knockdown in the first punch and was counted out after hitting the canvas twice more.

Zale battered him in the return a just months later and just over 2 years after this brutal loss he was World champion.

Despite beating him previously and beating him afterwards, sandwiched between those 2 wins, Joey Maxim was starched in the 1st round by Curtis 'The Hatchetman' Sheppard for his only stoppage loss in 116 fights.

Ebihara-Kingpetch is a great shout, Tin, as is the Kane one - don’t think either were mentioned previously.
