Joe Louis vs. Moses Itauma, the theory of boxing evolution...

Why does everyone do this? Wasn’t long ago we saw the posts of those who thought Ruiz, Wardley and Joyce would walk down Louis and others now they’re dust in the wind. Let the kid beat someone…anyone of note. His upcoming fight will be a good test. He has a lot of room to improve. Telegraphs a bit, looks inexperienced on inside fighting, and doesn’t seem to have many tricks. Buttt he’s got a lot of good skills and attributes that could make him great. Still raw though and maybe moving up to fast in comp

 

Louis’ career is fully in.

Given the breadth/depth of his opposition and longevity some might find it easier to pick holes in Joe’s game, real or imagined, as compared to the much shorter and far less comprehensive career of Moses.

Such premature analytical imbalances are all too often applied.

Not fair on either fighter but that much more unfair on Louis methinks.

In all fairness, Louis had his own Hrgovic moment when he fought Schmeling and that was a more comprehensive technical beating than what we saw a few hours ago. Joe came back and so can Itauma.

 

Yeah but someone started this thread when Moses was like a 12 fight prospect. It’s gotten pretty absurd in recent years with people putting prospects with legends. If nothing else it’s disrespectful in my opinion even if said prospect COULD beat said ATG

 

Louis isn't standing up to Itauma's shots just because Hrgovic did. This is a guy who ate Zhang's power.

 

Yeah Moses only has the puncher's chance. Most likely outhits Joe in the first 2 or so rounds but fails to get him out. When he can't skip around anymore and make big steps and plants his feet by round 3, he will start getting tagged.

And he's not beating Louis in exchanges when tired, he strikes me as the type who needs to take turns to let his hands go unless he's on ***** street. Too cautious to punch with Louis. And when he inevitably gets gassed and loses his power, Louis is the single worst opponent to have in front of him.

I don't know why OP started an Itauma thread in classic. But, hey, it's your life OP.

 

For now, Itauma's stamina is known - he was breathing heavily after round 1.

One thing I hate saying about a fighter is look at them physically - how do they look? For every Evan Fields, you have a Mr Weaver so you shouldn't just judge on how they look as I suspect that Fury at his best would make AJ look really bad.

I haven't followed Moses much, admittedly, but the first time I saw him, I thought, you're an elite prospect with a good promoter so you must have access to good nutrition, training and whatnot. I have always questioned his cardio based on how he looks and you can't always judge a book by its cover but when you're always trying to get a man out of there that quickly and you look like that, has nobody told you to slow down and pick your shots better? I suspect that always trying to finish so quickly is mostly about your confidence in your ability and youthful exuberance, but also potentially cos you know you ain't got the lungs for the long haul.

Something in his set up is wrong and his stamina and fight IQ certainly don't seem elite right now. The good thing is how young he is - if his mentality is right, this will be the making of him and he will go onto good things and increase his fight ability.
