I suppose Iran Barkley simply had Tommy Hearn’s number. Of course I realize that Tommy wasn’t prime for either of their fights but the further back you go in his career he wasn’t fighting in Barkley’s weight class either.

Nick Wells knocked Larry Holmes out twice in the amateurs and to my knowledge, Holmes never fought another southpaw ever again. This is a prime example of why guys like Lennox Lewis and Larry Holmes were not lining up to fight southpaws in the pros. When your offense starts with the jab from a conventional stance, it's tought establish the jab against a southpaws lead right hand.

Fat Willie Meehan’s style certainly gave Dempsey some issues with Jack obviously being the far better fighter in the greater scheme.

However, aside from just style, it seems Meehan also possessed a decent measure of durability which would’ve helped his cause against a puncher like Jack.
