Johnson lost FOUR fights by split decision including both Castro bouts which were pretty bad decisions.
Now Lara certainly does have more natural talent then Johnson but Johnson achieved much more in the pros then Lara did.
Johnson was a two division world champion.
And I thought Johnson beat TONEY even dropping Toney in that fight.

 

Wait until you figure out how close Lara’s losses were.

I like Lara and I think he is more talented then Johnson but he had a disappointing pro career.

 

To be completely fair:

Lara lost to Paul Williams when he was on his way out, lost to Hurd in a close fight who was nothing special and was washed 2 years later, beat Trout who wouldn't do anything other than beating cans after him and had recently got his ass handed to him by Charlo, only to get his ass handed again by the same Charlo, and almost all of his defenses (to not say all) of his WBA championships have been against washed boxers or unknowns who do not even scratch the world level

for example Terrel Gausha, i do not like underappreciating these powerful and brave men who step into the boxing ring, but ever since he lost to Erislandy he's been nothing more but a punching bag for the divisions he's competed in

Yuri Foreman, who had his brief moment of glory almost 9 years before facing Lara

Ramon Alvarez, nothing special who basically did not do nothing his whole career

Danny Garcia, in his most unmotivated night and completely washed

Johan Gonzalez, the most blatant padded record D rater in recent times

Reggie had to face Tarver, Collins, John David Jackson, Castro, Toney, RJJ etc.

his defenses aren't any better tho.

 

I stopped reading after three sentences. He deserved a win over Williams according to anyone who watched the fight (you didn’t, Scooter), had a could’ve gone either way fight with a peak Hurd and beat a prime Trout.

 

Reggie probably wins on an unbiased scorecard. Rough style for Canelo, whose feet are stuck in the mud. Canelo surely gets the nod though.

 

In the real world, he lost to a old Williams and lost to Hurd.

 

In the real world, everyone with functioning eyes scores Lara as the rightful victor over Williams (who was still a capable fighter at that point and only 29), and acknowledges that Hurd-Lara could've gone either way. Even the Canelo loss is debatable for Lara's favour, as is the draw with Castaño.

 

The same exact thing could be said about Toney vs Johnson and yet don't see people bring that up. The Castro bouts vs Johnson were pretty horrible too.
Lara problem in the Canelo bout is he essentially gave any chance of winning away by fighting way too negative at times when he didn't have to.

 

This is the type of fight that Canelo wins close by decision, and Johnson does enough to make it competitive, close, and possibly controversial, but he likely doesn't quite do enough to win. He was one of those guys; competitive with anyone, but doesn't quite get the win against the elites.
