Hate him or love him I don’t think many can’t deny he was one of the best commentators in boxing in the past 20 years. Problem with Paulie is he says what he wants and can’t be bought, which is why he may be having trouble finding commentating gigs and has to resort to bare knuckle boxing.
Rough stuff, anyone who spends any amount of time in BK ends up with a ruined face. He’s already got a lot of scars compared to when he stopped boxing! Probably better than the brain damage he’d get trying to compete in boxing as an aging athlete, but still kinda sucks to see!
i dunno...i get the impression that paulie prolly still has some boxing money left and will say what he thinks cause **** you if you don't like it. i think he bare knuckle fights because he still likes to get into situations where his butt puckers a bit because he's good at that kinda' thing and doesn't want to give it completely up just yet.
Last year he was talking about needing enough cash to move to Sicily. I don't know if that's still the case.
Thing is that BKB or specifically BKFC will dosh out quite a bit for aged out but semi socially relevant Boxers and Mixed Martial Artists. Probably more than a boxing promoter would pay for a guy very past his prime and not a household name. It also lends some credibility to BKB when they have notable former fighters from reputable sports and promotions on their fight card. So realistically for where he’s at BKB isn’t too bad of a gig.
Good answer. My first thoughts were because he wants to and because he can. Who are we to question his decisions, its not as if he is a broken down fighter who can't take his own decisions? To quote an immortal movie line, 'leave the kid alone'...
Ye nah. I think he would do boxing just to scratch his itch but would not be stupid enough to get his face permanently disfigured in bare knuckle unless he was desperate for money. His face needed months to properly heal from a previous fight, and he got knocked out badly in his last fight. This is a man desperate for money not doing it for fun.
Paulie is boxing royalty, former world champ in a 147 division Pac-Man and Floyd was in. He shouldn’t have to stoop so low.
If there’s a fighter who does not belong in a bare knuckle ring it’s Malignaggi. He always had notoriously brittle hands, punches lightly and relied on his speed, reflexes and intelligence. It also made him an extremely brave fighter sometimes. I understand he truly loves fighting and competing and it’s hard to let go and likely pays better than anything else but I worry about him. He’s already had some embarrassing losses and nasty injuries. He probably sees it as just part of the game at this stage and doesn’t see it as affecting anything he’s done in the past and it’s a job to him which he still is very passionate about.
Saw the first Malignaggi interview where I saw him speak very slightly punch drunk. That warping sound they get at the start of the speech decline. Was sad to hear. The only thing that really makes sense here is Paulie has deep issues that fighting helps him with psychologically, or he is in desperate need of money and fighting is the quickest and surest way to that money. But sucks seeing a guys whose attributes were sharp intellect and sharp speaking ability, have them dented, dulled and warped from fighting on too long, and for nothing at this point.
Paulie loves the chaos. He will fight forever. He is one of the best commentators today and it's sickening seeing Max Kellerman and that other guy Bob Arum called a ***** talk about the sport. The know nothing company men who can't even speak in a captivating manner just...keep...popping up don't they
He is fighting BK which will not impact his pro record. I don't know anything about BK but on boxrec it seems his last fight was for some sort of world title. He's 1-2 with 2 close fights and a bad loss to a world champion? Doesn't seem like he's doing that bad. What's weird is he fought for a 154 world title and both he and the guy who beat him are ranked at 135. Don't know what that's about.
