SRL wins... Floyd's style wont work here. Floyd will try to dictate the fight and make it into a I punch you once, and you can't hit me back type of fight like he always does, nice and controlled. SRL's jab can keep the rounds close when Floyd is trying to box on the outside, and then he can explode on him once he closes the distance. SRL hands are as fast, if not faster.. his feet are faster, he hits harder, he throws more punches. He can shoe shine Floyd when he's up on the ropes. Floyd's defence is better, but SRL's output and make him keep his hands at home defending too much.
Leonard close decision. Advantages in speed and power, as well as equal boxing skill plus Leonards own ring IQ and the fact that he faced tougher opponents.
Who do you think would end up as the dead body at the end of this fight. Or do you mean that this topic is overdone?
A top 30 all timer who peaked at Featherweight vs a top 20 all timer who peaked at Welterweight having a fight at Welterweight. Leonard by KO obviously.
Floyd? hell yeah. its a game of hit and dont get hit and no one does it better than Floyd. Ray doesnt do well with boxers anyway. never did
Floyd had no offensive advantages over Ray. Floyd wasn’t faster, wasn’t stronger, wasn’t as powerful. He didn’t have the same arsenal of shots. He wouldn’t have had a significant reach advantage which he had over 90% of his opposition. He never saw anybody with all of the attributes that Ray held. He could out skill and out speed bigger guys. But he never faced anyone as offensively skilled and fast, but who also with advantages in power and strength. He also never fought a prime ATG in his career, which means that he had no experience in fighting guys the calibre of Ray. (save your Canelo spiel for someone else) Also, nothing in Floyd’s career points to where he’d have signed a contract to have fought Ray. All of this means that Ray would have been a significant favourite.
Leonard would win on points but it would be very competitive. By no means a walk in the park for Leonard but he's got the ring IQ, speed and offensive tools to figure out Floyd's defensive style to beat him convincingly.
Floyd had lots of offensive r advantages. Straighter punches, better counters, lead jab to the body, lead right hand and duck out. Leonard looped his right hand. Ray never fought anyone like Floyd unless you’re counting a pedestrian version in his dad. Oscar and Shane did a lot of stuff that was similar to Leonard on the other hand. Similar size too.
