New Itauma/Hrgovic highlights sheds new light on vicious Hrgovic body shots

Yup, mentioned this a few times - whilst he was flirting with a British Stoppage, Hrgo let Moses empty his tank, then turned him and caught him 3 sneaky and great body shots - those REALLY put Itauma in trouble; he had already blown his load, but Flilip really weathered the storm, and came back with some very intelligent shots - and this wasn't a new thing from round 5 he was upping his work and output for the last minute of every round, making sure Moses was blowing as hard as possible in the corner!

 

Hrgovic boxed brilliantly and those who say he simply weathered the storm watched a different fight to me!!

 

While watching I'd thought it was the two right hands to the head he'd landed right after that really stopped Itauma's onslaught but the body shot did seem to freeze and take some air out of him.

 

A lot of people missed those bodyshots Filip broke him down with. It was also a punch to the body which eventually stopped him.

 

Bear with me on this, but there was an elegant simplicity to what Hrgo did. He lost rounds, yes, but he lost them on his terms. His placement forced Moses to fight at that pace, he was never out of range, he applied constant 'prescence' and Moses, because of the type of fighter he is, had to react. He also rode lots of punches and took the sting out of them. And he never simply defended. He landed meaningful, efficient shots throughout. When you are in a fight you feel when your man is tiring, when you can turn the screw and he did that perfectly. I'll rewatch this later in the week but I can remember all this from watching live, I thought in a totally counter intuitive way that Philip actually controlled the pace and conserved his energy, maximised his potential whereas Ituama did not make the most of his natural gifts. And yet, I LIKED that youthful arrogance, his youthful self belief. He will learn. I'm not sure Hrgy can fight a better fight. Moses can.

 

All of the copers and British Boxing media all claim he just gassed out. Even Ring Magazine refused to give Hrgovic any credit, saying he "did nothing".

It was a similar narrative after Usyk-Dubois 2 where they were focusing on Dubois' pre-fight party as a reason for his defeat, lol.

Were they watching the same fight, or have they rewatched it?

The refusal to acknowledge Filip's work in the fight is absurd, imo.

 

From round 4 onwards Hrgovic was landing very heavy blows on Itauma. The narrative that it was a completely one sided fight where Itauma just punched himself into exhaustion is false.

 

Already in round 3 Hrgovic landed a right hand to the jaw which made Moses wince.
