I was thinking about this. During Thilla in Manilla (Ali-Frazier 3), the temperature was reported to be 49 degree centigrade (120 F) due to the aluminum roof. Is this true? Obviously things were very hot in Zaire (Ali-Foreman) and Ali-Bugner 2 in Kuala Lumpur. Bugner 2 took place outside venue. Are there any examples of modern fighters having to deal with such extreme temperatures in fights? perhaps the need for conditioning isn't as high due to the cool inside arenas
Castillo—Stevie Johnston Lots of fights in Africa. I went to the Turki card in Flushing last year and the one in LA the year before. Both were outdoors during the summer.
Good post. But what about top shelf championship fights? I suspect that guys like Zhang and Chisora would be finished in 3 rounds under those conditions.
I think the sun was still out when Ruiz fought Miller. They had a pretty grueling sumo match. I feel like if you’re a well rounded fighter, you’ll manage accordingly. Kronk guys used to train in a hot and humid gym and I’m sure others did it too.
