Middleweight Fantasy King of the Hill 9/12- Monzon vs Jones Jr.

I think that Jones discovers that a long jab, great timing and defensive footwork is going to nullify a lot of his dazzling speed. A guy like Jones can never be written off, and I could see that in a long series of fights he'd get a decent percentage of wins. But I think Monzon is too old-school tough and Jones' already iffy chin is going to get softer and softer the longer the fight goes on. I expect the late rounds to be all Monzon. Just one fight? Over 15 I think Monzon has a chance of the stoppage, over 12 I will take Carlos on points. Might be narrow.

 

Over just 12 rounds with modern rules, I think Roy's speed and unique skills might me able to nick 7 rounds in a fight that is turning towards Monzon during the last several rounds. Over 15, I slightly lean toward Carlos.

 

Monzon. A good right hand and a good haircut get him pretty far. He's pretty patient for Jones' flash. Griffin was up on Jones (lt. heavyweight), and I usually pick Hagler over Jones.

 

Not a fan of the 12 round format. That should be on the general forum while 15 goes to the classic

I stand by it. People can disagree but its not going to change how I see it.

 

I think that Monzon has never encountered someone as fast as Jones and its going to be too big a factor over 12 rounds to overcome.
And even if Monzon was able to adjust he would have to give rounds away and in a 12 round fight that is too much.

 

I voted Monzon by decision because at 160 Jones was still a bit green. At 168, I do not see anybody beating Roy.

 

Roy Jones by wide decision. You cant rely on a jab and right hand against so versatile a foe

Does Monzon possess boxing skills and foot movement? Roy Jones has that and more. Monzon has no chance

 

Jones beats him .. matches him in size at 5 ' 11" with slightly shorter reach .. so much faster of hand and foot and a much harder puncher .. no knock on Carlos who was great for sure but lets get real, Jones at 160 and 168 may have been the best ever ..
