Should Itauma Change Trainers

Minnie, my boy. These fighters gotta pass a drug test before they fight. If they spend any amount of time with the ol' Gypsy dosser they're gonna be addicted to the Columbian marching powder just like Fury's buddy Joesniff Parker.

 

Adam Booth would be a good fit. Haye and Groves we,re always pretty good at making opponents hesitant to close the distance/gap on them which helped keep opponents off them and kept them more efficient.

Outside of the pacing i reckon that will be Moses biggest hurdle to overcome He kept Hrgovic off him by throwing the kitchen sink at him.

Going forward tho he has to be more efficient. But if you cant stop opponents from coming forward without throwing the kitchen sink at them he will be in that exact same position again.

What i remember was Groves and Haye having quite a wide stance at times....if you tried to close the gap a big right hand would be waiting on you. After a couple of them its not long before you become hesitant to close that gap. Thats when you can start controlling the distance and pace of the fight.

You need power....which I reckon Moses does actually have. But he was too predictable with his power on Saturday night. Mix it up. He was kind of diluting his power by throwing threes and fours with a high volume continuously.

Booth or Ingle. Who gives his fighters decent angles. That again makes you more hesitant to close the gap.

 

Furys a natural imo. Hes worked hard at it granted. But i m not even sure hes even been taught half the stuff he does. Or hes thought it out for himelf either. Just naturally gifted.

That doesnt usually go well when coaching.

 

He needs to find a trainer that will ensure he knows what 12 rounds feels like, you can't go into a championship fight having without preparing for a fight that might go 12, that's being stupid

 

No question about it.

 

Literally anyone would be better. Reynoso, Salas, Somodio, McGuigan, Sanchez, Shields, BoMac, RJJ, Johnathan Banks, SugarHill, Robert Garcia, McCracken, Booth, the Diaz brothers, Andy Lee, Bozy, literally anyone is better than Davidson. Teddy Atlas would be an improvement and he is quite frankly not a good coach.

 

Where did the Towler learn how to throw the towel ?

He's really good at it,,,,

 

I wouldn't say he's good at it. He lost where it was during the Wardley fight and threw it AFTER the ref waved off Itauma.

Maybe he needs more lessons.

 

And Moses fully bought into that mentality. "Why spar more rounds than you need to?".

Lucky, he's only 21. Enough time to change his mindset with the right guidance.

 

Robert Garcia would be my first choice

 

He might not be very coachable. If that's the case then the trainer doesn't matter. Itauma either listens to his coaches and digs deep physically or mentally or he's cooked. He might win a belt or two but there's no chance of him being the future of the division if he doesn't listen.

 

Itauma needs a old school coach that won't let him bludge... Ben isn't it.

 

Shane McGuigan trained Moses' brother before he retired because of a heart attack. He might be an option. Don Charles name has come up but don't know if the would work with DDD as they might be facing each other one day, if Moses can come back from this defeat.

Peter Fury might be an option and relocating out of the South East and get Moses away from some of the back slappers telling him how great he is.

For all his talent and skill Moses might not be able to adapt and train for different approaches. He's very good at what he does and never had to change anything to beat the competition he faced up to now. Could be a genetic issue and he hits his ceiling early in a fight and needs to work with a coach that can help him learn to pace and manage a fight.
