Michael was great but Roy was special. Spinks would give Jones some issues but he just isn't quick enough to win enough rounds to take the fight. I'll go with Jones by a 145-140 decision.

Due to a feeling of Spinks fan insecurity, I'm going to reflexively, defensively, offensively, immediately pick Spinks, to protect my heart and my immortal soul. I used to have a mortal soul. But, thanks to SpaceX, and some backroom dealings, here we are.

I favour Spinks at the weight. He is a harder puncher than Roy and over 15 rounds he would eventually stop him

I think this is the right pick,Noel.
Spinks was brilliant at this weight, I can't pick Jones over him here.
Spinks nails him so hard that Jones is out before he hits the canvas.

Thanks to everyone who has weighed in and cast a ballot so far.

To provide some context: I am building a dedicated video series around these mythical matchups kicking off this October with Saddler vs Sanchez.

The entire concept is designed so the Classic section carries official consensus weight, quite literally standing as an "official" scorecard (alongside YouTube and myself) to represent the purist perspective. I’ll be running roughly 3 polls a week to build the data foundation, so every vote directly shapes the official verdicts. Cheers!

Spinks is easily the safe bet here. I don't prescribe to Jones having a bad chin before he fell off the cliff but Spinks could decimate average and even good chins with very few punches. He's also a real winning type guy with Eddie Futch in his corner. Eddie gave Jones a bit of trouble with a guy that can't blow wind up Spinks backside. Jones power won't worry him, he has a great chin at 175 and Jones flattened out a bit there. He's also got every punch in the book, often throws them without predictability or cadence, and on top of this he's the dirtiest fighter barely anyone thinks is dirty. He had the most educated elbows in boxing at one point.

Spinks will stop him at some point.

    Spinks by KO.

I'm a big fan of RJJ but how many legit 1 punch KO artists did he fight in his prime ? Especially at Light Heavyweight ?

RJJ would be in unknown territory here fighting against a bigger man who if he makes 1 error against his lights would be turned out.

I think RJJ would trouble Spinks with his speed early on and possibly he would be ahead on points after the half way mark.

But eventually Spinks would find the mark IMO and KO RJJ between 8-10 rounds. It would probably look a bit like the Eddie Mustafa Muhammad fight.

Where Muhammad was ahead on points at the half way mark. But then he got decked heavily and then Spinks totally controlled the fight from then on.

The only difference is that Muhammad had a pretty solid chin he was never stopped in his career. Unlike RJJ who had a suspect chin to say the least, so if he gets decked hard I think Spinks finishes the job.

No disrespect to Rummy who has a great channel but there's alot of casuals on YouTube if we're being honest.

How many of them 83 percent have actually properly watched Michael Spinks run at Light Heavyweight ? I would gather not that many.

Think a lot of them are influenced by Michael`s one round demolition at the hands of Mike Tyson

    I would say so yeah.

If you look at Michael Spinks best opponents at Light Heavyweight like.....

Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Marvin Johnson, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.

Historically these Light Heavyweights are a level above the Light Heavyweights that RJJ were facing in his prime.

Don't get me wrong I'm not hating on RJJ and he is one of my favourite fighters to watch in his prime.

But Spinks is the bigger man here and he has legit 1 punch KO power.

The closest RJJ has come to fighting a bigger man with a big punch was Tarver.

I like Roy. Spinks CANNOT outbox Roy! I only give Spinks a puncher's chance but he can be dangerous
