Loyalty or lack thereof with a trainer

    Who was the most unloyal boxer towards their trainer?

    After watching Giant starring Pierce Brosnan, it seems like Nas was very ungrateful for Brendan ingles help... Apparently they never reconciled but Nas was emotional upon the passing of ingle.

    And then iron Mike with cus. He never really rebelled against cus while he was alive but post humous he started taking off the breaks of the wheels. Firing Rooney signing with Don King etc. wasn't there a time when Cus said Mike needs to be in an environment that's conducive to his needs. Well he saved him from punity as a student in school, but Tyson even hated cus's people afterwards, like the most annoying teddy Atlas.

    Who are other fighters who went against their benefactors?? I remember cotto put a brick through evangelistas car window and said he means nothing to him family wise.

    Who else turned from their coach when things started getting easy. Just like they said about Prince, it s difficult to run at 5 am when you're wearing silk pajamas in the morning. And ingles quote before the Barrera beat down : how's he gonna beat Marco Antonio Barrera without a gameplan?

    What are your thoughts? And on the flip side who was extremely loyal to their coach?? Provide examples, please and thank you!

    King got Tyson after Jim Jacobs died. Bill Cayton, Tyson's remaining manager was not a people person and King poisoned Mike's thinking and played the race card bigtime. But I agree that if Cus and Jacobs lived 10 years longer that Tysons career and life would have turned out better.

    Loyalty makes sense if you're winning and your coach has taken you as far as you can go, like Clancy and Griffith. But there have been partnerships where the coach is limited and the fighter can benefit from a change. I thought it was honorable of Pavlik to remain loyal to Jack Loew, but Loew was limited and I think Pavlik could have evolved a bit more under a more experienced coach.

    I thought Cotto improved under Freddie Roach, and Bradley seemed to have new life added to his repertoire when he left Diaz for Teddy. When GGG split with Abel Sanchez it was more about money, and for what Golovkin was paying, he didn't think Sanchez was adding any value to his already developed skills. Not sure if Sanchez was still insisting on 10%, but often when fighters are earning 8-digits or more per fight, they negotiate a lower rate for coaches, as did Mayweather and Pacquiao.
