I think he just wanted to fight Deontay to have fought all of the three kings. He had floated a fight a very long time ago when Fury wouldn't fight him, so I think it is a personal goal.
Usyk fight story concluded with the second Dubois win. With that win he no longer owes boxing anything else, especially after vacating his belts so the next era could have at it. He’s here now to cash out, and he’s earned it.
My understanding is that he wants a big fight in America. None of his previous fights here weren't especially big. Deontay Wilder is unfortunately the biggest HW we have.
Also Wilder legacy, even more. No one had beaten Usyk until then, let alone knocked him out... in your scenario
You never know. Put some money on it. I'd imagine the odds would be pretty good - not crazy, but good.
Money. He talked a lot about wanting to fight in a world championship match in Ukraine, but he threw away the belts + Wilder in America.
I’d go and dethrone Hrgovic. Hrgovic is the hype right now. Adds another world champion to his resume. Everything Itauma goes on to achieve makes Usyks win over Filip age like wine. Without adding Rico; Anthony Joshua Anthony Joshua Daniel Dubois Tyson Fury Tyson Fury Daniel Dubois Filip Hrgović that run started dethroning a champ, undisputed in between and ends dethroning a champ.
I don't really think it would take much away from what he's accomplished, getting poleaxed by a random Wilder right hand is nothing to be ashamed of, it's what he does and if he lines you up or gets lucky spamming it, you're going down. The threat is probably only 10% at this stage vs 25% five years ago. No belts on the line and he's already beaten the best of the era. Wilder could knock anyone out if he lands the right hand, not so much now but he does still carry power and will be super motivated. Looked alright in the Chisora fight.
Nah there will be a rematch an as long as Usyk wins that he can retire on a high like Ali losing to Spinks. That could have damaged his legacy but by winning the rematch an becoming 3 times champ, it was a perfect ending for him.
Usyk has fought just a few fighters at HW and has had a very short career overall. If Usyk beats Wilder he can posture he beat the 4 best HW champions of his era and cleaned out his era. Whether it's true or not he can claim it. I think after Dubois 2 Usyk originally wanted to fight Wilder, Parker, Ruiz. Maybe mix a Chisora rematch in there. This plan fell apart and now he's just going to be able to fight Wilder. It wouldn't surprise me if Ruiz beats Knyba to see Usyk come calling to make that his last fight.
Wilder is an exciting fighter no matter what. He can fight a total can and people will watch. His last fight against Chisora was very entertaining. Why not? I can't think of a better sendoff/cashout opponent.
