Hello guys, I need your opinion on his power. I was convinced that he had huge explosive power, belonging with names like Tyson, Shavers, Tommy Morrison.... Yet hée couldn't even wobble Hrgovic and by Hrgovic own words his power wasn't big. Abel Sanchez later added that Itauma can't throw a correct punch So what ?
He’s fast, very fast, the blinding speed is what is having people in trouble, the power im not so sure. He packs a punch but it’s certainly not of the upper echelon of heavyweights and quite frankly I’m offended on behalf of some of them names mentioned.
He's fast, explosive, accurate and when fresh has great timing and technique. Those things all generate the power. If he loses his legs or speed, or someone manages to read his rhythm, then his power drastically falls off. He's not got naturally heavy hands.
I think the effects we see are mainly down to speed and folks not able to brace because they don’t see it coming
For what it's worth this is part of what Abel described about him. "He doesn't know how to throw his punches yet. Yes, he's aggressive, but everything is very amateurish. Everything is a home run for him. When the punches that knock you out aren’t necessarily the ones that are thrown like mean intentions, the ones you can see coming from a mile away. The punches that knock you out, at least in my experience, are the ones that you don't see, the ones that are just so sharp and I mean, he was not throwing those. What concerned me most was that Itauma was quicker than we thought. Okay, let's give him that. Great talent, very quick, very smart, good foot movement, sharp puncher, but not as explosive as I thought he was going to be." Crawford is one of the best at knocking fighters out with the sort of shots they don't see coming, I don't think Brook even knew what day it was after that fight and that wasn't exactly a hail mary.
Hrgovic has an ATG chin at heavyweight; that uppercut at the end of the 5th would've taken out most heavyweights on the planet, I think, apart from Wardley possibly. If he hit Dubois, Kabayel, or someone like Parker with that, I can't see any of them not having serious trouble with it. He hit Franklin with that same uppercut and absolutely scrambled him, and Franklin wasn't bothered once by Joshua's power.
His power is like Zab Judah's power..........................it has some power, as when he connects he definitely stings you and you feel it, but the majority of his power, the flash that we see, when he stops people, it's based off of speed and momentum.
Tyson, who hit harder than Moses, always said it was his speed that made him so devastating. He readily admitted that he didn't have the raw power of a Foreman for example but he compensated for that with speed and combinations. Itauma is similar I'm guessing but lacks Tyson's precision, conditioning and natural power. I'm a Tyson critic but for a fighter of his age to achieve what he did he was a phenom. Itauma was on a hiding to nothing with the Tyson comparisons.
He's got power, just not the Zhang or Wilder kind of power. More like the Pacquiao at 130, Zab Judah and Corrie Sanders kind of power. Blistering speed and punches from the southpaw stance you don't seen coming that can hurt you the most. It's still devastating because boxers usually get hurt by the punches they don't see coming. Regardless of what happened last week, not many people at heavyweight can take his speed or take his shots. He would still be a sizeable favorite against the vast majority of heavies in the first 6 rounds.
Pacquiao had heavy hands at 122 and 126. Once he got up to 130 plus, he no longer carried thud with him in the ring. And instead relied on blistering speed and weird angles to hurt people. I agree that Itauma's got similar power to Pacquiao in the higher weights. Good power, but not enough to bludgeon people with raw power alone.
Tyson had flawless technique, great talent and adopting cus d'amato as a surrogate dad made him into a machine. You'll hardly ever gonna see anyone execute these movements this perfectly again. As to Power I think his straight punches were negligible. Some of the longer hooks shoild have been ok, too. He wasn't a long hooker like tua or frazier. But some of his shorter hooks to the body and head... They were absolutely powerful. and he could throw them after a slip. And then he would throw combinations and often not alternating the hands, throwing his opponents off. Deadly. With itauma i think he has reasonable power. Top ten power at heavyweight. He doesn't have the power of dubois' jab and probably can't hit the body as hard as kabayel does. He won't throw the hook as hard as gassiev can. But none of them could have done much more to take hrgovic's senses away. The last monster hitter was zhang and dubois isn't close. What he did to joshua doesn't change that. So i think itauma is fine in the power department, but he is dependent on his opponents not seeing the punch. I thought that might do hrgovic in, even though I picked him (saw it as a 50-50, which i still think it was). Weirdly it didn't matter that hrgovic didn't see many of those punches coming. This fight has proven more about hrgovic's chin than about itaumas power. We never saw itauma punching through someones guard or similar stuff. It was always good technique, precision, timing and deception, often via probing lead hand and feints.
As Larry Holmes explained when he lost to Mike Tyson, he said guys like Ken Norton hit harder than Tyson. But Tyson was a "sharp" puncher. Clean, fast, sharp connects with decent power behind it. Those will catch people off guard. Not heavy-handed, however. According to Hrgovic, Moses isn't heavy handed. And Hrgovic fought Zhang, who clearly has heavy hands.
He ain’t cracking like DuBois or Joshua, and certainly not Wilder or Zhang, but he can punch and is fast.
He has 8 1st round KOs and 3 2nd round KOs in 14 wins He stopped all his opponents in the European Junior Championships inside of a round on route to winning gold. That's not normal He HL reel one punch KO'd the very durable Franklin who'd never been dropped or stopped and took very big punchers AJ, Whyte, and Dychko the distance He stopped the teak-tough Wach inside 2 rounds. Yes Wach was 44 and way past his best but as I said to myself at the time I bet Wach still takes other prospects the distance after this fight and sure enough he did Wach has been stopped x 6 but one was on an injury and all the others sans Moses and Mak were mercy stoppages late or much later or TKOs with Wach finishing on his feet without having been dropped Moses and Mak are the only 2 fighters to drop Wach I watch a lot of boxing interviews and I've seen numerous members of Moses' team, Queensberry and just people who've witnessed his sparring sessions and they allude to seeing him do special things in the gym and he's obviously he's been knocking out top HWs in sparring
He has 12 kos in 15 pro fights. Which is fine. The Juniors are for minors. In fact, Itauma never fought a grown man until he turned pro. All his amateur fights were youth fights between kids aged 12-17. He wasn't knocking 30-year-old Cuban Olympians as an amateur, or anything like that.
