Wow, that was a solid brawl on ESPN! Nwodo beat the hell out of Godfrey in round 1, flooring him (was ruled a slip) with a right hand and scoring with the jab. I had Nwodo winning round 2 close and round 3 10-8 due to the beautiful KD (straight right to the chin). The bell ended the round during the count for Godfrey. Then in round 4, Godfrey hurt Nwodo with a sweet counter overhand right, tried to follow up but missed a whole lot. Just as Nwodo was regaining his feet, the ref stops the fight, as Godfrey missed another right by about 1 foot. IMO Nwodo was robbed here, bigtime. Godfrey was turning it around but it was a serious asskicking until then, in Nwodo's favour.
Nwodo was on his way out at some point but, I agree. It is always wrong to stop a fight after the losing fighter throws a punch.
Nwodo looked unraveling mentally, but man, with his punching power the ref should have let the fight end more decisively. He really robbed Godfrey of a truly conclusive ending as much as he robbed Nwodo of a chance to come back.
overrated? not at all i do think he had some ring rust and he lost a big fight he is a very good boxer/puncher and he will make noise in the next few months....i would like to see how bj does in his first fight back im sure he will have some troubles if he gets in there with ok/good fighter.....
I agree guys, regardless of who you thought was going to win down the line (IMO Nwodo would have taken it), you have to concede the stoppage was horrible.
Given how most of the posts on here make it seem like Germany's the end all, be all of bad decisions, I find it interesting that nobody's bothered to point out where the fight was held at. One could've gotten the impression on here lately that every fight that happens there is crooked and that they've got the market cornered on shitty decisions. Pointless venting aside, I agree that it was a bad ending to an excellent fight. It's definitely rematch worthy.
the "knockdown" in round 1 was not ruled a knockdown because he hit godfrey in an illegal spot. Good call by the ref. I do agree the ref should have let it go a little longer but Nwodo was on his way out. There wasnt much protest on his part.
I agree it was a very entertaining fight. A rematch is in order. Godfrey had turned it around, but he may have punched himself out by that point.
Come on, that stoppage was far from controversial. Nwodo was getting blasted from all angles. Little longer and he could've been hurt seriously. Remember his jaw is suspect anyway.
Actually, bad call by the ref either way. If it was an illegal shot (I believe it was), he had to rule it as a foul and warn Nwodo/deduct points, and give Matt time to recover. If it wasn't illegal, it was a KD. So the ref messed up. As to the stoppage, it was way too early and yes, Nwodo portested it bitterly. Doesn't seem like you even watched the fight.
Where is Ding? I reckon he's training pretty intensley, he hasn't been around here for a while now. He must have a fight lined up already.
