This is true.
This is mainly due to his freakish boxing skills.
But it is also in no small part due to his matchmaking skills (sometimes known as ducking skills).

There are at least three living boxers who are greater.
Possibly more.

But he's been seen showing a bunch of slack jawed hangers on a stack of notes from his purse in a strip club, that's always a sign of great wealth and status remember? It's just sad at this point, it was cringeworthy at the height of his Money days but he doesn't know any different. I'm sure he's got a lot of money compared to 95% of the world still but he is in for a world of trouble, it's only downhill.

 

First he was Pretty Boy Floyd then he was Money May, now he's Budgetweather. It's the contradictions that get me, one interview he says as long as he can pay his bills and eat he's fine. Then he's flashing the piles of notes in the strip club. He could have entered the humble phase but he just can't let go of that old image. He's becoming a caricature of a caricature.

 

for me, floyd's legacy is that he made a lot of money.

 

Floyd was the best marketing boxer ever. He was brilliant at making scandals of his life...hanging out with rappers, feuds with rappers (50, TI/TIP, others), briefly had a music label, Dancing with the Stars, WWE, Floyd literally created the 24/7 HBO show, getting arrested and going to jail, being friends with and receiving support from so many celebrities and athletes, etc.

Nobody comes close in terms of marketing.

In terms of actual Boxing, Floyd is a shoe-in for Top 50 ever. Likely Top 25 ever. He has no place in any respectable Top 10 list.

 

The OP compared Boots Ennis to Floyd. Boots is a 30 year old prospect lol. Dude is nothing like Floyd. Other than them both being black, they have nothing in common. Boots ducked Bud, Vergil, Brian Norman Jr, etc. He's a glorified email champion. Floyd was fighting legacy fighters at 21-22 years of age in Genaro Hernandez and creating ATG performances as an underdog (last time he was EVER underdog in a fight) against Diego Corrales (rip), and racking up belts like a hobbyist collector...taking on any and every champ. Floyd didnt start ducking until 147 pounds...after starting at 126-130. Boots ducked weight class 1 and 2.

Some people are so racist that they see color and immediatelt assume similarities. Boots is much closer to a Jaime Munguia, Lucian Bute, or Peter Quillin than a Floyd.
