He didn’t have lots of advantages at all.

He didn’t have better counters.

A lead right hand?

Like he was ever going to land a lead right hand on a guy like Ray.

His pot shots were against much slower, less mobile fighters.

Lead jab to the body?

He couldn’t have thrown that against Ray.

Yes, Ray never fought anyone exactly like Floyd, but he fought Benitez and guys who were on the level of Floyd.

From Floyd’s perspective, he never saw anyone who even resembled Ray, or nobody of his calibre. Not the specific versions who Floyd fought.

Shane and Oscar?

How would they be in any way relevant?

The second that Ray fought him aggressively, Floyd would have shelled up defensively.

And a defensive Floyd couldn’t have won the majority of rounds needed for a victory.

Ray would have been a significant favourite.

Nobody knowledgeable would have favoured Floyd.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t Leonard have some issues with Norris?

 

Bookmakers probably made odds for 25+ of Mayweather’s fights. The odds of him winning all is close to zero according to the oddsmakers. I’d expect him to add Leonard to that accomplishment.

I hold both fighters in very high regard. But I can’t picture Mayweather beating Ray Leonard at his natural best weight where he was prime. To be sure, Floyd Mayweather was an excellent welterweight. But Leonard is superior in that class

Leonard had MAJOR issues with Norris.

First off, Norris consistently beat Ray to the punch. Terry never waited to Leonard; Leonard waited for openings on Norris and seldom got any. As Ray looked, Terry pitched.

This would be the same problem Sugar would have with Floyd, except that Floyd would not be able to hurt Leonard. Though he would land consistently and clean enough to keep ray's respect

The other problem. When Ray did get in close, Terrys speed would triple and knock Ray all over the place.

In the rare event ray DID land, he could never get in a combination because Terry would just tie him up. And this is something that the forumers here just dont understand!

Terry and Floyd are smart, VERSATILE fighters with many tricks up their sleeves and can adjust their game plan on a dime.

They ignorantly believe that one fight with w BENITEZ is the ultimate test. Benitez was NOTHING!!

Hearns? at the time he was a good offensive fighter that hadnt reached his prime and was just getting some exposure. I showed up anyways just to see what all the fuss was about. Hearns really got caught and hadnt learned defense

Sugar Ray and his fans found out the hard way that Benitez was NOT Terry Norris. Look at him. The forumers here havent figured it out after 40+ years. the man was stationary with is legs spread far apart

In the Norris fight we see a different opponent with a different fight plan. being unable to break out of the constant cycle getting outmaneuvered and outgunned, the "MIRACLE MAN of 1987" was clueless. How DO you hit a moving target?

and he would definitely lose to Floyd for the same reason. Ray has a punch and has some versatility but put him in the ring with Camacho, Norris, or Floyd, and he's a loser every time

 

why not? Larry Bonds went 11 with Prime Ray with no talent of his own. If Ray's offense was so awesome, how come he didnt just blast him out in the first round like a prime George Foreman?
