Well, beating someone convincingly is important when determining how good boxers are. If Itauma had barely scraped by a decision against Franklin, where he only really won because Franklin's stamina completely gave out in the last three rounds, nobody would have been hyping him the way they were coming into the Hrgovic fight. Zhang is a world class operator, and sure, Zhang was old when he fought Kaybayel, but he was old when he reached the world level, and he wasn't looking any worse when he fought Hrgovic or Parker. As for Kabayel, avoiding fights, he only really had access to big fights after the Makhmudov win. Yes, he got a win over Chisora before that, but that performance was flat from both of them, and it didn't exactly set the world on fire. This year's lack of good fights for Kabayel can be explained as him waiting for the Uysk fight until May/June, when Uysk dropped the belts.

If he doesn't get a unification fight right now, he should be fighting better fighters than Hysa. I agree with you on that.

The point is that maybe it was easier to get that stoppage because Zhang was so old and had a non-existent gas tank at that point of his career (and it wasn't exactly great before that either).

We can maybe explain away one year of his career waiting on Usyk, but all the other guys seemed able to find fights so it's not like he couldn't have kept busy either. It's frustrating because Kabayel can open up a lot of very interesting fights, but there seems to be no urgency on his part to do so. He does seem to be making a bit of noise in wanting a unification though, so I really hope that materializes.

I like Kabayel but if I am honest I think he has already hit and gone path his zenith. 33 years old, fights once a year...seems to be talking unification but seeking out the Kynbas and Hysas of the division.

I don't even know if I'd favor a prime Wilder but now? Zero chance sorry.
