Any H2H involving current fighters vs greats from most past eras. Modern guys get obliterated.

I think Kid Gavilan could fight Mickey Walker 100 times and beat him 100 times.

Usyk smashes most greats from the past. Has a solid chance against the goats.

This one hurts to admit but I don't see Mathew Saad Muhammad beating Dwight Qawi even at an earlier stage of his career. Qawi could slip and slide on Mathew catching him clean too often.

I would heavily favor Duran in a rematch with Hearns wherein Duran was prepared and focused versus the version that entered the ring against Hearns. I know that the triangulation principal does not always work in the sport but Duran beat the equally large Barkley, the one that owned Hearns, five years after the Hearns fight, when he seemed more motivated even if older.

Whereas I do wholeheartedly agree with your comment stating that Duran was unfocused and not prepared for his bout against Hearns, we will have to disagree on your conclusion.

The reason, at least for me, that Barkley found success against Hearns was because he was a powerful, tough, and physically imposing brawler. Those attributes, combined with Hearns' increasing age and declining physicality, seriously affected what occurred in their bouts.

Duran simply doesn't possess these capabilities.

Barkley was roughly as tall as Hearns, had only a four-inch reach disadvantage, was younger, and outweighed Hearns. He had the physical tools necessary to make Hearns' night extremely difficult.

Duran had the intelligence and skill, but the scales were much more unbalanced in the physical department, to the point where those skills essentially did not matter.

Now, you may raise a completely justified question: how can I say this if Duran beat Barkley?

The reason Duran found success against Barkley is because, yes, he was fighting a heavier, younger, and more powerful opponent, but he was playing his own game.

Duran, the ultimate brawler, knew all of the tricks and nuances Barkley would use to try to overwhelm him. Even with the severe physical disadvantages he faced, Duran was simply so much more skilled at the things Barkley did than Barkley himself. That is why he managed to weather the storm and squeak by with a decision.

This is not the case against Hearns.

Duran cannot impose those same capabilities onto Hearns because Hearns simply would not let him. It is a completely different stylistic matchup against a completely different kind of fighter.

I see Duran surviving for more time, but not for long.

I hope i made my thoughts clear with this reponse, English is not my first language, so i apologize for any grammatical mistakes you find in it.

Good post. I don't agree with it but well thought out.
I don't believe a 34 year old Duran fought much like a 29 year old Duran. Big difference in quickness, the ability to close distance, work rate was not the same. At 147 Duran would be at least as strong as Hearns.
Hearns was less experienced at Welterweight as the Leonard fight showed. I don't know if he would have the same confidence that he did later in 1984. We know Tommy did have defensive lapses that cost him at times, his defense wasn't airtight.
That is not to say Duran is a sure bet to beat him. It would be tough to overcome Hearns natural advantages. I believe Duran the ability to do it but he would need to be at the top of his game. He wasn't supposed to beat Ray Leonard because Ray was bigger, younger, faster etc.
Based on the things I mentioned I probably would have it a pickem fight.

I think Duran beats Hearns at 147. People forget Duran was 33 with 82 pro fights under his belt, and coming down in weight to 154 after a very close loss to Hagler at 160, not exactly the best version of Duran.

I don't think any version of Tyson beats Holyfield.

No version of Spence beats Crawford.

Absolutly can't see how Maskaev could've beaten Nagy Aguilera. I actually predicted that Aguilera will KO him in 1, and exactly that's happened. Surely, it was shot Maskaev, but I can't see him getting past ANY quick opponent (and Aguilera was quick) cause Maskaev was slow as hell in his prime and always had glass jaw. All his best opponents that he had beaten weren't even remotely quick.

how about the latest Andy Ruiz fight? His opponent looked a good 8 inches and just picked him apart with the jab.

Andy with his heavy feet, just had no chance. I think he should retire

I agree, I'm a huge Duran fan and I didn't bet on his fight with Hearns because I thought Hearns would win mainly because Duran had cashed the Hagler fight check and was hanging out in Las Vegas partying .Even Duran years later said he was a shameless ******* the way he didn't prepare for Hearns. But That was Duran after the age of 30, you never knew what you'd get. The Kirkland Laing effort, or the Iran Barkley display.
