Is Jermell Charlo one of the most overrated champions ever?

Fled the division. He ran from Tszyu. The guy hasn't fought in 3 years God knows when he fought before that. He pissed away good boxing years but deep down he was running from the whoopin Tim would have put on him. Against Canelo he ran like a weasel offering nothing. One of the most insipid attempts in the ring I've ever seen. With Tszyu set to fight in December this clown will maybe fight the winner in march next year. Charlo lost to an average Tony Harrison too. I think he's a very limited boxer and he's ran from the undeniable truth.

    He's just not that good.

Tearing down Charlo while talking up Tim is odd... If Charlo is "just not that good", then Tim straight up sucks.

What's that saying about Charlo then? There's no question Charlo ducked him. I'm not talking up Tim at all. He's far from what he used to be. He would have beaten Charlo pre Fundora 1 though. Both Charlo and Tszyu are spent goods no matter if Tszyu beats Lara and Charlo beats Tszyu or Lara.

I think they may be of a similar level, with Charlo having the benefit of reigning over a weaker division for a spell, giving maybe an illusion that he was better than he was (being ranked in top 5 p4p at one point in time iirc)

Don’t you have to be highly rated by everyone in the first place to be then considered very overrated? Personally I thought he was a good solid fighter but nothing exceptional.

Ever is reaching, there’s been some god awful belt holders in the past decade alone. Charlo was definitely a worthy world champion, they both were.

I think they are both ranked correctly, just decent world level operators. Nothing more nothing less.

Jermell unified the division, so its kinda odd to **** on him and not Jermall, who achieved a lot less and wasted as much of his prime as Jermell did.

it's hard to gauge the charlo brothers. they don't fight often enough to really get an understanding of where they are in relation to their peers in the division.

The Houston hare is a disgrace, ducked Timmy and held the division hostage for as long as he could then cashes out against Canelo and fights like an absolute coward.

He completely robbed Castano to achieve it though.

Unified the division, avenged a draw with Castano (should have been a loss) by knockout and a decision loss by knockout; only lost when he got dragged up 2 weight classes in a fight against Canelo that shouldn't have been allowed to happen, he had no business at 168.

I won't argue he's in the top 10 ever at 154, but there's definitely more overrated champions out there. That Castano KO win was excellent, based on that fight, I don't think he'd have ever struggled with Tim.

I feel no one's really disputing all this.

154 is the best division by far and this guy still hasn't been replaced as lineal champ. Him not measuring up is obvious.

Judging by the eye test, he looks way better than Tim. He probably never beat anyone as good as the guys Tim lost to though.
