We currently are hearing a lot of hype around the young 19 year old heavyweight, Moses Itauma. He had a decorated amateur career at schoolboy and youth level winning both european and world golds, however we have another prospect still in the amateurs named Leo Atang who I think turns 18 next month who has just won a version of the world youth championships over in Colorado. According to boxrec his record is 16-1 (not a complete record) and is now firmly in the GB set up. Interestingly enough there's an Irish kid, Adam Olaniyan who is 18 who has also just won a version of the world youth championships in Montenegro at heavyweight and a rivalry between the two is now being hyped. Anyone know much about these two?
I watched Leo at the worlds u19, he's not bad, Nothing that I'd call special. That's about as much as I can offer.
I saw his finals fight against the Korean, I thought Atang looked quick, athletic and had a decent jab but it's easy to look good against opposition which let's face it didnt look the strongest.
Sorry to bump an old thread but just caught Adam Olaniyan’s fights. He looked a little nervous and clumsy but he’s young and could develop well. Atang looks quite good to me.
Yea he looks heavy handed, not sure if he will be a bit vulnerable when he steps up, he was manhandled and stopped against the Irish ABA champion not long before turning pro but that could be a boy vs man situation. Atang, looks fast and loose, not sure whether he has legit power though, both will be moved slower than Itauma thats for sure.
Not that impressed with either atm. Both very young though. They'll be long term projects moved slow I think. Olaniyan entered the seniors in the amateurs.. got beat up and stopped by a fellow Irish young lad Martin Mcdonagh, then got beat up by the English young lad Matthew Williams. So basically flopped in the seniors. Signs a professional contract and suddenly gets hyped as the best thing since sliced bread, only in Boxing lol.
Martin Mcdonagh is young himself though. Warren should have signed Mcdonagh too, don't understand why he hasn't. They could have built them up at the same time for a rivalry in the pros down the line.
