How do you think a prime Witherspoon (roughly 1983-85) would have done against either of the two Brits?

Over AJ (he would outpoint him), not over Fury (If it's Wlad or Wilder 2 Fury).

    Fury outpoints Witherspoon.

Witherspoon is very live against Joshua. Possibly stops AJ late, à la Bruno.

Witherspoon has a good chance against both.

Fury has been dropped multiple times with right hands and Witherspoon had a pretty potent overhand right.

Witherspoon not in the best of shape beat Bruno who was another British Heavyweight who had bodybuilder physique with a big punch.

The people in this thread saying confidently that Witherspoon would lose to both just remind yourselves of this.

Witherspoon would be the best prime opponent that either Joshua or Fury has fought outside of Usyk. And Usyk wasn't even in his prime against Fury he was a bit past his best.

Now tell me I'm wrong ?

    /thread.

Probably beats AJ, but Fury likely beats him.

He wouldn't be favored over either and it's pretty obvious. I wouldn't favor him over Luis Ortiz.

Fury would land that uppercut often as Witherspoon ducks and comes forward and would win a decision.

Witherspoon is able to get inside against Joshua and have success and land more than he would against Fury, but the uppercut and combinations from Joshua would be dangerous. Hard to pick this one.
