R.I.P. George Chuvalo.

I was actually keeping tabs on George reaching his 89th birthday.

In all possibility a coincidence that he passed on the day but by no means does it eliminate the possibility that he hung in for the milestone - especially if family kept reminding him of same to keep him going.

RIP Champ. Super tough man at all levels.

Re Foreman, I don’t think we ever found out exactly what George passed from.

It was a shock for me and I did hold out that I might get to meet him one day. He did come out to Oz some years ago and I should’ve made all possible moves back then.

I completely understand Foreman’s family keeping his cause of passing private - but like most people I guess, I’m still curious as to the actual cause.

As to delayed notification of the passing of some other old school fighters, while he aged into his 90s, IIRC, Roy Harris’ passing wasn’t broadly reported until several years after the fact.

Chuvalo was the epitome of the Prizefighter, perhaps the last one of them... his life too was nothing short of the example of resilience & faith under fire.

the first Boxing match I remember seeing was a Chuvalo fight, late 60s.

R.I.P to the best Chin ever...

 

One of his kids became addicted to painkillers after an accident, which does happen and it’s something you can’t reliably predict or prevent, and it’s hard to get people to stop being addicted to something once they’ve became addicted.

The other 2 did died of a heroin addiction, but who knows, maybe they were both hanging around with the same people and they both got into it. It’s easy to fall into the wrong lifestyle if you’re hanging around with the wrong people, especially when young and make silly decisions, so it’s not farfetched that they both could’ve fallen into at the same time if they were hanging around with the same people.

These could easily simply be very unlucky circumstances on George Chuvlo’s part, rather than him not raising them right or helping them etc.

 

RIP to one of the toughest bravest fighters of all time.

He also went through alot in his life losing 3 of his sons I believe.

So I hope Chuvalo finds peace with his 3 sons in Heaven.

 

Man, sorry to hear that. Dementia seems more prevalent than it used to be.

Like a God.

 

People are living longer that's why.
Here in Australia the average life expectancy is 81 for men and 85 for women.
In 1990 it was 73 for men and 80 for women.
In 1950 it was 67 for men and 73 for women.

People simply died earlier of other illnesses before they lived long enough for dementia to affect them,

Hopefully one day a cure or treatment will be found to prevent this horrible disease.

 

RIP George. A life well lived. One of the toughest of all heavyweight contenders.
