George was an intelligent guy and very wel spoken. He represented boxing in a positive way at least from the interviews that I've seen. Chuvalo was a rock.

Absolutely, it could have been a chain of unrelated circumstances that caused that bad luck for an entire family. I don't think anyone has publicly questioned Chuvalo's explanation. I do wonder, though. I'm curious: Does anyone know when Chuvalo began to talk about the family tragedy? Was it while any of his sons and their mother were still alive? Or was it after they all had died?

 

it was Toronto (Canada's New York), in the late 1970's & 80's, I was in London Ont. then, it was nothing but Drinking, Drugging, Partying and fighting for teens right though to early mid 30s even, it was pure mad living for huge chunks of young people then, rich or poor.

Chuvalo's kids were well clued up and hip to all of that and coming from the Boxing scene, you know fine well both their inner & wider circles were full of undesirables. Unfortunate outcomes just the same, no matter who you are, but I do think the 'scene', like many, many others, swallowed them up.

Chuvalo was pretty damn cool in my book when he dressed up like the washerwoman, promoting the Ali fight. IT SHOWED HE WAS REALLY FEARLESS.

 

He went dancing with his wife while Ali went to the hospital. Don't make them like that anymore.

I work in high care health with Alzheimers/dementia patients my main area. I've pondered the increase a lot and that's the obvious cause in my view.

I honestly don't know whether Chuvalo's dementia was boxing related or due to his advanced age. He sure didn't sound punchy for a long time after he retired so I'm leaning towards it being a progression of time occurrence.

 

He was always looking for a Clay/Ali fight, it seems. Fearless.

What vehicle and what speed would Chuvalo have assigned to Earnie?

Either way, it would more than likely still be running on the same limited gas tank
- especially with Shavers flooring it in the first 3-4 rounds. Lol.

 

Re Larry Holmes and current health. Nothing official here but I did look up trying to find the most recent vision and literature.

I did find a clip that appeared somewhat recent. Assisted by his wife, Larry was walking but notably moving very slowly and possibly not completely with it.

At any rate, I found a discussion on a Boxrec forum with a poster claiming that he heard on a podcast that Larry was diagnosed with the onset of dementia back in 2023 - again, that’s not official but it was put out there: -

I would like it not to be true but unfortunately I have a somewhat strong feeling that it may well be.

Without official confirmation, I’m also kind of leaning to believing Foreman may well have suffered same in his later years.

Taking punches in your younger years is one thing and bad enough but both George and Larry were taking punishment when well into their 40s - damage per punch taken being reasonably assumed to be that much worse.
