Peak Max Baer Vs. peak Deontay Wilder

Max hit hard and so did Deontay. If Bear can see the 3 Fury-Wilder fights first he would win.

 

Depends which Baer. Slightly off topic. But I feel that while Max had the fuller career Buddy was the better Baer.

I would pick both of them just would be a little more confident with Buddy especially the prime version we never got to see.

 

Boring points decision.

 

Both Baer and Wilder were low skill brutes making the most of their power and strength against largely sub par opposition. What I will say is that Wilder had the single best weapon - his thunderbolt right hand. I think that is what tips the balance in his favour.

 

Not a fan of Wilder but I think he takes Baer's head off personally.

Wilder is considerably taller with a longer reach and throws straighter punches.

His long right hand would find the mark first IMO and get the KO.

 

Wilder wins, and the same people who swore up and down he was going to lose will immediately move the goalposts to, “Well, he ducked the more dangerous opponents to fight a clumsy oaf with no jab to speak of and who practically falls halfway to the canvas every time he throws an uppercut.”

 

Yup. I took Baer to beat Berbick in anothet thread but think Wilder pulls this out of the bag in an exciting fight that might go longer than many predict...

 

Both of them will hit each other. Wilder won’t take Baer’s punches nearly as well as Baer will take his.

 

Have to go with Wilder but Max Baer could pull a Wilder on Wilder

 

If they'd have fought 10 times I'd have Wilder 7 Baer 3.
I've got Wilder KO 6-8 round's , but this is one of those old school V Modern heavy weight fights where I wouldn't rule out Baer landing the shot that changes everything.

 

This ... Baer vs. Wilder would be the ultimate Cro-Magnon slugfest, not a bit of boxing science.

 

Max Baer would be one of the worst transfers to face a modern opponent. His Defense is the most suspect of any early title holder. It might be worse than a true Pioneer like Jeffries who no shade to Jeffries but Boxing wasn't very evolved in his day. Baer is 20+ years later and looks like an early pioneer. Granted he has a solid chin. But taking full shots from a modern heavyweight is much different.

The Lou Nova vs Baer fight's are some of my favorites, but Baer eats so many punches I'm shocked he didn't have brain damage. Sometimes I think he just took shots to get himself in a mood as his defense is almost inviting a shot.

I think any real mid level Modern Heavyweight would put him to sleep in a round or 2 or maybe 4. Guy's way below Wilder's status.

A modern heavyweight against Baer would look like Joe Louis against him.
He wasn't equipped for that kind of leap. He's the definition of privative.

 

Wilder was ten times the boxer, hit harder, and never got completely intimidated by a 200 pound opponent.

 

In terms of a chess match, this one is on par with Leonard vs Benitez.
