Yeah, I don't mean to be too disparaging about John, and fair play to him taking this at 24 in Brown's backyard; he can definitely come back and win the British if Brown steps up or vacates. I just think all this talk of Brown at elite CW level is premature at the minute. If he'd stopped Riley like he stopped Hedges, I'd get it, but I'm excited to see how he goes; great fighter to watch and a genuine bloke. I am rooting for him; I just don't think I am seeing this superstar that Matchroom are talking about, at least not yet.

 

Yeah, I don't think Riley is going to trouble anyone at the world level for sure, but Riley outboxing Masternak over 12 rounds and taking his European title was more impressive than Brown folding Hedges. I think he could frustrate him and could take him into the later rounds.

Brown landed a couple of great shots on Hedges' chin, and he didn't budge; so let's see what his power is actually like against a top 15 guy. Fair play for switching it up to the body so impressively, but I want to see him in there with someone with a bit of pedigree before I make a final call on him.

 

I think Riley may be a bit too experienced and awkward at this stage, but I would not be surprised if Brown went through him like butter if they fought next month. If they meet in 12 months - 18 months time I’d put the house on Brown by stoppage. The only thing Viddal has over him at this stage is just straight up 12 round experience.

A more experienced Pat Brown is going to control this division eventually. This isn’t no Moses Itauma type hype, Moses is a great talent but he’s young raw and still only has one gear which is full throttle.

Brown has so many tools and I don’t think he’s even had to go into the bag yet to show anything more than raw power and shot selection.

Other than getting clipped stiff as a board which can happen to anyone in history bar Fabio Wardley of course because he can’t physically be put unconscious, I fully expect him to stay unbeaten all the way to world honours.

Who has Brown beaten yet to justify this hype, though? Viddal Riley has a win over Daniel Dubois in the amateurs, won a silver at the European juniors, outboxed Masternak to win the European, and even his win against Chev Clarke is pretty underrated domestically. If Brown can start flattening the likes of Clarke and Riley, then I'll definitely be on board with your lofty expectations for him; I'm just not sold yet, especially when Tony Bellew talks about him unifying the division. I don't think I've seen him get a prediction right about a prospect for the last decade.
