Most complete fighter in their prime: Duran, SRL, Sanchez, Hagler, or McCallum

I’ll go with Leonard. Most adaptable to circumstances and most consistent.

Roberto Duran for me. Monster on the inside & midrange but also respectable on the outside due to his excellent footwork, timing and his solid jab. Excellent body puncher. Both the best defensively and the best counterpuncher amongst the group. Extremely physically strong, excellent power that carried from Lightweight to Super Middleweight, excellent chin. Just has a lot going for him.

 

Leonard too.

Could beat anyone put in front of him (with the exception of 1st Duran fight which made him an even better fighter).

Hagler an amazing fighter but struggled with good boxers (Willie Monroe I, first 2 Sugar Ray Seales fights, struggled with Duran and the Leonard debacle).

Love Sanchez but didn´t look that great in some of his defences when facing boxer types.

McCallum had trouble with both Curry and McCrory early on and then lost first match with Kalambay.

Though the McCallum of first 2 Toney fights was damned good.

Duran was an all time great but had bad nights with Laing, DeJesus I, Leonard II and especially Benitez who dazzled him to defeat.

 

I’d probably go with Ray but damn, it’s hard to place Roberto at # 2 if separation of the pair is required.

Well above his best weight and past prime, Duran hung very well with a better version of Hagler over 15 rounds.

And Roberto’s win over Barkley, well, Barkley would’ve been a very dangerous fight for Ray at that stage of the game, imo.

The power that Roberto carried through several divisions was amazing. Certainly enough to still stun iron chinned Hagler who admitted that he did feel several of Duran’s better punches.

 

Most will go with Duran but I'll nip Leonard as tops today.

 

Duran based on going so far up in weight giving aways size and height etc. He had to change his style for those weight classes. More people noticed his counterpunching, his defense and his ring IQ.

Duran was so good he made you forget his preceding long reign as 135 lb LW Champ and his moving up multiple divisions, well beyond his best P4P weight.

The Brawl is one of the ATG fights - and it was more than apt that Leonard himself was Roberto’s complementary dance partner - and visa versa.

Hags clearly won but it was crazy that Roberto fought such a competitive fight against Marv and that his power was still sufficient to get the attention of the granite chinned Hagler.

I’m not trying to sell Roberto over Ray, the argument for Leonard is strong but, for me, they’re a bit hard to separate but given the fellow ATGs that Ray did knock over, I’m coming around to believe that he’s the right choice with Duran a close second.

 

Sugar Ray Leonard.

 

Sanchez or Duran probably. Both could fight at any distance, had power, chin, stamina and deceptive speed. Maybe Sanchez was better boxing on the backfoot, though. Put on clinics against Lopez. I'll go with Sanchez.
