Hopkins spent alot of time bending at the waist, twisting, and scurrying about in that fight. He didn't like the broken rythm and unorthodox attack of Calzaghe. Alot of energy was wasted, and even a laymen could see it. It almost appeared as if Hopkins was getting dizzy and motion sick - as well as exhausted, from all his added movement. He was in a panic at times.

Hopkins was on his out that's why he had to pull that oscar moment move. If not for that he would have been stop.

Yes, but I think Joe caused the gassing, by his constant pressure and working of Hopkins. Hopkins had to keep focused and really had no time to rest in rounds. A lapse of focus, and JC could have hurt Hopkins, and B-Hop didn't want that to ever happen to him.

It's the fact that Calzaghe is so damn busy that caused Bernard to gas out...Now he's fighting Pavlik...a guy that not only has the same workrate but can also be quite effective fighting from the outside and not have to get constantly held by Bernard on the inside !

Money can be like a real virus when it gets a hold of you...Bernard has a big ego, he's money hungry and can't let go ! He very well could be forced to stop by his corner somewhere in the 9-10th rounds...

Yep, Hopkins isn't just highly defensive, he's claustrophobic. Hopkins must always have several feet of distance when he's clearing out to feel at ease, and Calzaghe kept rushing in and getting right on top of him. It wasn't even effective pressure nescessarily, but it made Hopkins extremely uncomfortable.

Possibly, although we're talking about two distinctly different forms and styles of pressure from Calzaghe and Pavlik. Pavlik will lead with his punches in a conventional attack, and Calzaghe was charging and mauling in an unconventional attack alot of the time. Hopkins had zero trouble with Winky Wright, a conventional attacker who threw straight punches in bunches and brought tremendous pressure.

Yes Hopkins was gassed against Calzhaghe but it was'nt just due to Hopkins being 43 years old, Calzhaghe made Hopkins fight at a faster pace then what Hopkins is use to so that was the reason Hopkins was faking low blows and trying to hold Calzhaghe.

He was gassed against Taylor too. Too old to make the lasting impression. Calzag and Pavlik are the men to make it happen I just hope Hopkins doesn't get knocked into retirement.
