Haye: It will be Rahman or Toney

    by James Slater - David Haye has been talking again. Speaking exclusively with Setanta Sports, who will be showing his next fight live, "The Hayemaker" has said he will be "one of the best conditioned heavyweights you'll have ever seen" when he gets in the ring in November. Haye also spoke about how he feels he will do against two of the current favourites to be meeting him on November 15th - James Toney and Hasim Rahman..

    According to Setanta, fighters Valdimir Virches, Monte Barrett, Juan Carlos Gomez, Oleg Maskaev, Alexander Dimitrenko, Serguei Lyakhovich and Chris Arreola have been ruled out for one reason or another, and this leaves Rahman and Toney. Rahman is the frontrunner, but Haye spoke about how he'd do against both "Rock" and "Lights Out."

    "I think I'd knock him [Rahman] out," Haye said. "Just like the rest of the heavyweight division. Over twelve rounds, sooner or later they're going to get knocked out. They might have good spells. They might be able to take the initial onslaught, but sooner or later they'll get broken down and knocked out."

    Haye then discussed James Toney, a fighter he reportedly has respect for.

    "The only problem with James Toney, is, I've looked at his record on BoxRec and he's only won one of his last six fights," Haye said. "He got disqualified for [taking] steroids, he drew with Hasim Rahman and lost to Samuel Peter twice. [The last fight] was a no-decision, I thought he lost the first two rounds then he won the third, then Rahman got cut. It would be an interesting fight. He's [Toney] deceiving. He fights a lot better than he looks. If you look at him, you think he's just a pumped-up fat middleweight, but he's got a lot of skills. I definitely think I'd stop him late or win a big decision on points."

    Haye clearly rates Toney over Rahman, yet it does seem the 35-year-old Rahman will be getting the fight. He's been the favourite to land the match for some time now, and, as Haye said, he would be a lot easier to KO than would Toney. Setanta sports conducted a poll, and when the votes were in Toney was the winner when it comes to who the fans want to see Haye fight in November. Who knows, maybe "Lights Out" will get the call after all. I'm sure James would jump at the chance.

    The word is, the official announcement for Haye's next fight/opponent will take place in mid-September. It's been a long time coming!


    I hope it will be Toney and not Rahman. Haye will be in there for a long night with a very unsure outcome against Toney, there will be knockout. Haye -Toney is a great fight for the fans, can not wait for the press conferennce if this really happens.​

    Seems that Haye is a real boxingfan and studies his opponents before he enters the ring. Good for him hes also probably an ESB addict lol. I believe this guy is probably in top shape like he says but hes gotta test his abilities first to see if he stand up.

    even this massivelky faded Toney would be too hard and skilled for Haye. Old Thompson outsmarted and outlasted him, Toney is 10 times the fighter Thompson was.

    Haye's not dumb. He'll take Rahman. Toney would have a pretty decent shot at beating Haye.

    He better pick Toney, Rahman is only living off that fight with Lewis. If not Toney it should be Mollo, McCline or Golota

    You already got your excuses ready. Prime HW Toney still gets KTFO by present day Haye. Toney's claim to fame at HW is beating a faded Holyfield.

    I doubt seriously...well I KNOW seriously, no way no how does the Haye of today, yesterday or tomorrow knock out any version of fat Toney. Not the prime Toney or the shot Toney.

    Sam Peter was boxing rings around the guy and beating him to the punch all night long. Haye's a far more polished boxer and is in another league speed wise; he could sit and jab him all night long without having to worry about too much coming back.

    You could tell it was always going to be Rahman. No way does Haye fight Toney. The question is, is Rahman one of the top 10 heavyweights in the world?

    I dont understand why Haye is so keen on Rahman given that Rahman has more KO power than Toney. I dont mind if he fights him but I would be more interested in a Haye-Toney fight becuase they are both the two best trash talkers in boxing right now.

    That was funny. I think Toney had him hurt man, I see no other explanation. He definitely quit on his stool, He told the doctor I can't see, and I can't fight if I can't see.

    I don't think he will fight Toney, it took him too long to respond and I think he is just mixing in that name to deflect criticism of him avoiding the challenge. I think he wants to fight the biggest name with the lowest possible risk and a knock out victory and than use his mouth to parlay that into forcing Wlad to fight him immediately.

    Assuming he goes about it this crummy way (lone low risk fight and then bitching about how Wlad is scared) I hope he has to claw his way up tooth and nail over a period of years before he sees Wlad or whoever else may be the man at heavy at the time.

    This might sound like a contradiction, but I think he actually should fight somebody not all that good in his first test, get reacclimated with the bigger size that he now is and fighting bigger guys, however, if this guy is calling out Wlad right NOW, then he needs to step up NOW and fight the toughest guys around.

    I am going to take a wild guess and say it will be the much feared

    It is not even close. Toney gets laid out on his back and taken to hospital.
