There is a natural order of things. Tyson is for sure behind Lennox and Evander. This can't be disputed. Holmes is behind Tyson. Therefore, Holmes is number 4 of heavies since 1980. Horrible era, horrible resume, fought subpar competition, lost twice to a light heavweight, refused to rematch worthy opponents, and ducked elite from a horrible division. And finally, rarely had knockout, dominating performances against inferior competition. Way too many stiffs lasted way too long.

To be precise, he never stayed down. He was on his feet and ready to continue, although very wobbily it must be said. However, when comparing this stoppage to others, many other referees would have let him continue. One example: Golota was allowed to continue after the first knockdown against Lewis when was he was all over the place and in a similar condition.

Agreed. 3-5 for me. I debate myself on the merits of Holmes, Rocky and Lewis and have great trouble splitting them.

Te only thing that Lewis maybe surpasses larry in is resume. Holmes is a a vastly more skilled boxer in his prime then lewis who was skilled ever was.

What Lewis has over Holmes is power and size in spades. Of course Holmes also has his share over Lewis too. Two great heavyweights.

    Top5 for me.

His resume lacks many important names of the time on it, but his consistency, longitivity, skill and proven athletic ability in my opinion makes him a lock for the top10.

Top line - Cant be disputed ? :huh
    are you fkn nuts ?
I take it your going on the fact that they beat Tyson when he was a shell of himself.... timing is everything, they got Tyson at the wrong time for Mike/right time for them.
Tyson at his peak beats both Lewis & Holyfield IMHO.

2nd line - I agree Holmes is behind Tyson but not because he lost to Mike while past his peak but simply because I rank Tyson higher when both were at their peaks.

    Since 1980 -
    1. Tyson
    2. Holmes
    3. Lewis
    4. Doesnt matter, its not as clear cut as above.

Ps. I have Larry Holmes No7 of all time.

    :thumbsup

I have him at 7 but would have him higher in a pure head to head sense.

Top 3-4; ahead of Tyson. The only fighters I'd back to convincingly best Holmes 2/3 head to head are Ali and possibly Lewis. He pressents too difficult a stylistic quandary for most fighters.
