After first-season "Contender" star Peter Manfredo Jr. (31-5, 16 KOs) knocked out third-season participant Donny McCrary in the second round Aug. 22, he called out third-season tournament winner Sakio Bika (26-3-2, 16 KOs). Manfredo is getting his wish. In his hometown of Providence, R.I., Manfredo is slated to face Bika in a super middleweight fight Nov. 13 on Versus, the network that picked up the fourth season of "The Contender." Two other notable fights are also in the works: Jaidon Codrington (18-2, 14 KOs), who hasn't fought since Bika stopped him in the November finale, against New Zealand's Daniel McKinnon (12-3-1, 6 KOs), and ex-super middleweight titleholder Anthony Mundine (33-3, 23 KOs) of Australia in his U.S. debut against former "Contender" participant Miguel Espino (19-2-1, 8 KOs). "That's the card we're trying to finalize," said Tournament of Contenders promoter Jeff Wald, who is working on the show with co-promoter Jimmy Burchfield. "We're excited about this card and our new home on Versus," Wald said. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/notebook?page=notebook/boxingseptember5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xhvjf8g4iE Tried pasting vid here but couldnt, beyond my capabilities at this very moment. Good close fight, Miguel could have won that fight on some scorecards. Mundine would paste him
Sorta a weird fight for Choc. He is probably making 1/10th of what he makes fighting at home and I cant see this fight having any significant impact on his rating or career. But good to see him show his skills in the States, hopefully he looks better than he has lately.
Espino is ranked 6th at middleweight by the WBC. Beating Espino should get him ranked by the WBC. Maybe he is angling for a fight with Pavilk? At least this fight should signal his first fight at 160. Good choice opponent, pretty safe option. He said after the Kim fight that Sugar Shane and him discussed fighting a non-big name fighter in the States just to showcase his skills then go for a big name. If this bout goes ahead, he is backing up his word.
If he's serious about putting on a show and wanting to take the next step, he shouldn't be worried about being the main support bout. I would buy this PPV for sure. First Mundine PPV i wld buy since Soliman 2
This is a big step up from cab drivers....and should lead to a better fight in the US....I am ok with this fight.
I would defo buy this PPV card if it were an option here in the UK , three decent bouts , whats not to like ? Corrington , Bika , Manfredo , Mundine all second tier @ s/middle but an intresting few bouts for sure , would appreciate a stream to it if possible closer to the date . :good
I'm not a huge fan of Mundine's but the others are second tier. Mundine has been top 5 @ SMW for the last 5yrs. second tier imo wld be rated 5-15 in the world
