To those who said Khan was going to be better than Hamed...

And there were PLENTY people saying this, maybe not in the US but they certainly were here in Britain (not that they will admit it now) :

Khan will never be as good as Hamed was.

Hamed didn't have a great chin, but it was stronger than Khan's, and he had more grit and resilience. He was more elusive which meant he could avoid punches better, and he had better punch-power.

Hamed lost the 1st time he fought excellent opposition, but even though I am not a fan of his at all, he did have enough power and speed to enable him to have a successful career.

Khan was blown away the 1st time he fought a fellow up n comer. He will never be as good as Hamed, and I don't even support those who say Hamed is HOF class or was a 'great' fighter.

Khan has been exposed as another Fraudley (though obviously he has more talent and ability than Fraudley himself).

 

Hamed's chin was good.

It's only natural to speculate whether Khan was going to be as good as his predecessor. If a great young Welsh or Mancunian prospect was KO'ing people on the road to a world title shot, people would remark whether they thought the guy had the potential to be as good as Calzaghe or Hatton, it's natural and it happens.

There seemed to be a considerable section of British boxing fans who thought Khan was like Hamed but with the flaws eradicated- he has speed and power like the Prince but had a tighter style that would allow him to operate safely against world-class opposition once he gained the necessary experience and training camp to cut out mistakes like getting dropped by guys like Limond.

And where did I say there was anything wrong with Hamed's chin?? I think he had an average chin, way better than Khan's, I don't think I implied anything other than that.

I think you are thinking of Kevin Kelley, who put Naz down 3 times. Tom "Boom Boom" Johnson never put Naz down at all.

However, I don't see how getting put down 3 or 4 times in 1 fight is evidence of a good chin - surely that's the opposite?? Look at Toney and Hopkins - how many times have they been put down in their careers? That is evidence of a good chin. Getting put down 4 times and getting up is evidence of a good heart and bravery, not a good chin.

Hamed was floored by guys like Daniel Alicea and Augie Sanchez (though the ref wrongly didn't count the legitimate Sanchez KD), he did not have a 'very strong' chin as he could be floored by mediocre fighters and punchers.
